Gluten free - all or nothing?

Hi there, I just started a gluten free diet for my 4 year old with ASD. While I intend to eventually switch the whole family over if it works, for now I am just doing a trial elimination diet for him. I'm wondering though - does it have to be all or nothing? This morning his brother gave him a mini muffin. I don't see how to prevent this from happening 100 percent of the time. His father and I are also separated and while he is on board I can see his PITA mother rolling her eyes and just giving him what she wants. I also hate the idea of Being at birthday parties bringing along his own snack (this is not a knock at all to allergy moms - just that since the autism/gluten link is speculative I worry if I'm causing social harm while possibly not even doing any good.) would I see any benefit from like an 80/20 percent arrangement? Thanks!

With gluten free its all or nothing, I know because I found out my ex was sneaking gluten to my son for 6 years!! he is now 100% gluten free when he should have been years ago

It's all or nothing. If you don't think you are going to be able to follow it or if your ex won't follow it, don't bother starting. It's a PITA but works for some.
