If you've hired a tutor for your child, how did you go about finding one that is qualified? Specifically looking for a great, patient tutor for 7th grade math.

My daughter had a medical issue recently that has caused her to fall behind in math. She is concerned about her grades and asked last night if we could look into getting a tutor to help her understand better.

Any suggestions on where to look? Also, does anyone know what the approximate going rate range is for a tutor these days?

Thanks!

I asked teachers and PTA members who had older children. It took me a while. I wish I had gotten them sooner. Our tutors do enrichment and my kids really love them. It is really hard to get them to do anything more than homework with us.

We pay one tutor $50 for one hour for one kid and another tutor $100 for 1.5 hrs for 2 kids.

Ask your teacher. The schools often have tutors that work with many students.

I know of a really great retired middle school math teacher who does tutoring. FM me and I can pass along your info.

My mom :) really she is the best teacher I know. She taught 2nd grade for 25 years then was a math coach for 5 years until she retired 7 years ago. now she tutors K-8 in her retirement. She's in Bellmore, but she'll travel. Let me know if you'd like her info.
