It's not about immigrants. His own mother and 2 of his wives are immigrants. This is about race and religion. Never stop calling that out to people who think it's as simple as an immigration issue.

And the immediacy of the EO has zero to do with "national security". It takes weeks, if not months or longer, to get a visa to get into the country. "Bad dudes" can't just hop on a plane and come over here within a day or two like he's implying.
There are zero reasons (well... zero logical, sane reasons) to implement that ban the way he did, even if it somehow DID make us safer (which is doesn't).

It was purely a grab for attention and praise from his hard-core followers. "See, I kept another promise to keep you safe, and then Congress stopped it." (sorry, I can't translate into trump-speak. My brain can't stoop that low....)

I personally don't agree that its about race or religion. I think its just about terrorism. Those 7 countries, did after all, get chosen by Obama for the areas of the world most likely to harbor terrorists. I don't see it as a an attack on race/religion.

Part of me thinks this was definitely a political ploy by Trump to his hard-core supporters. Just as Goldenrod has said - Trump can say 'look what I am doing to keep America safe'. Notice how this was done on a Saturday. Not a Monday. There's no way his administration could honestly say w/ a straight face that the way this was carried out wouldn't have created chaos. Legal residents with green cards have already been vetted and shouldn't have been detained, period.

I also think its smoke and mirrors to get the media away from talking about the other EO that put Bannon on the National Security Council. Trump has already disparaged the media, attempted to discredit the Judiciary and reporters, has interjected his family into top key roles, has pushed out top leaders of the State Department, and now he wants to dictate who comes into the US how he is carrying all this out its borderline fascism if you ask me.
