Glucose Intolerant
So I took my 3 hour glucose test on Wednesday and I failed the first hour test and was on the high end of normal for the second hour, so my ob is considering me glucose intolerant and making me go see a nutritional counselor.
I know this is definitely very minor in the grand scheme of things, but has anyone dealt with this? Were you put on a strict diet? What types of foods were you limited to?
I've been so careful this pregnancy with what I eat because I refuse to gain as much as I did with my first because I was heavier to begin with this pregnancy, so I'm really shocked that I failed.

Glucose Intolerant
I had my 1 hour test this morning and I failed miserably. I had GD with my first pregnancy so I actually tested my own sugar right after they drew blood and it was way too high . Last time I was devastated when I first got diagnosed but it ended up not being a huge deal at alll. I was able to control it with my diet. There are tons of blogs and resources online for diabetic friendly recipes etc. FM if u have questions!!

Thanks! I know it's not going to be a big deal in the end and it isn't the worst thing to go see someone regarding maintaining a better diet, it's just that I already feel like I'm watching myself so carefully this time around that I'm not sure what more I should be limiting.

Re: Glucose Intolerant
I failed 1 blood draw last pregnancy by a few points and failed it again this time. I haven't been seen by the monitoring place yet, but since I still have my glucometer and know what to do, my OB is having me test my fasting number every morning as well as 2 hours after one of my meals each day just to see how I'm managing. Last time, it never developed into GD and I was able to control my sugar through diet. It's annoying to test 4x per day, which is what I'll likely be doing again once I have my appointment, but you get used to it.
There's nothing you could've done to prevent this. It's how your body processes sugar/carbs during pregnancy. It's important to eat every 2-3 hours with a combination of protein and complex carbs. I know last time I was advised to not have fruit for breakfast and to have it as part of my morning snack instead, but this time, I haven't had any issues with my numbers when having berries and Greek yogurt for breakfast. I'll see what they say at my appointment though.
Exercise, even walking 15 minutes after a meal, also helps keep your blood sugar in control. The fasting number is hardest to control with diet because it has more to do with the way your body works. However, I notice my fasting number is better when I have a late night snack. I don't love eating so late, but my body needs something (I typically have a cheese stick and a low carb wrap with peanut butter or sun butter) to keep my numbers in check. If I go too long between eating, I'm much more likely to be at or slightly above the cutoff.
Feel free to ask any questions.

It's the way your body is processing the sugar/ glucose. It has nothing to do with the way you're eating and there's nothing you could do to prevent it. If you are eating healthy, it's possible that you might not have to make changes to your diet. Your glucose levels could be fine throughout the day if you're eating a lot of healthy carbs, proteins and veggies.
I had GD with DS and it was diet controlled. It was annoying but very manageable. It was a very strict diet but I actually felt like I was eating a lot. I ate a lot of peanut butter, brown rice, ww english muffins, grilled chicken and veggies.

Thanks for this! I know it doesn't have anything to do with what I'm eating, but it still feels like I could have prevented it. I definitely think I eat too much fruit and not enough protein, so I'm sure that's something I'm going to have to start paying attention to.
