Glucose Intolerant/Gestational Diabetes
Hi ladies, So I didn't do well on the 3 hour test. My Dr. told me that I am glucose intolerant,, which is one step below GD.
He just told me to limit my carbs and sugars. I asked him if there was a specific meal plan I should follow, and he kept telling me to just limit carbs and sweets. I'm not too thrilled with him, I don't find this particularly helpful, I need some structure.
I'm meeting with a dietician next week, but was wondering if anyone had any meal plans/ web sites they could share. I'm really not sure how I should be eating this week until I meet with the dietician. .... exactly how many carbs/sugars? Is fruit OK? I really have gained too much weight, and want to take care of this.
Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated!
TIA

I would look at the American Diabetes website. They have information on meal planning as well as recipes. http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitness/?loc=GlobalNavFF

The diabetes website has alot of good information.
From experience, What I can tell you is to limit carbs, such as white breads, pasta's and make sure to eat protein, like meat, chicken, eggs, nuts etc.

Re: Glucose Intolerant/Gestational Diabetes
I had glucose intolerance. It's treated the same as GD. I could have 30-35 grams of carbs for breakfast, 20 for am snack, 40-50 for lunch and dinner and 30-35 for the other 2 snacks. You can and should have carbs. Fruit is fine, but I was told to not have it first thing in the morning. Try to eat more whole grains and always try to pair the carbs with protein. For snacks, I'd have fruit flavored greek yogurt, whole grain crackers with peanut butter or sunbutter, or have some cheese/cottage cheese and fruit.
My weight gain slowed down, but I still ended up gaining as much as I did with my first pregnancy (no sugar issues then).
It sucks at first to change your diet and monitor your blood sugar, but once you start to get the hang of it, it's not that bad.

Glucose Intolerant/Gestational Diabetes
I have GD... based on my weight and height I could have 30 carbs for breakfast(basically 1 package of oatmeal, or 1cup cherios with half cup milk), 45-60 for lunch and dinner, 15 for snacks - snacks would be at least 2 hours after a meal. I was told only fruit at lunch or dinner.
