Right now, each kit is in a zip lock bag. But then he has the assorted bins. Do you have any rhyme or reason to your kids Lego pieces?

We sort them this way:

If they are Legos, they go in the Lego bin.
If they aren't Legos, they go somewhere else...

How do you organize Legos?

We have Duplos in a drawer elfa thing from container store i bought second hand...we are still kind of new to the smaller legos (blech) but we bought a drawer with little bins and dividers for parts like the people and I sort of tried to keep the kits together but it feels nearly impossible so we are keeping families of sets in container store shoeboxes LOL

Trofast storage system from Ikea. The shallowest draw size. We have about 3 draws of legos. Larger blocks are in a bigger draw. Stuff he put together is on top.

Re: How do you organize Legos?

I do actually try and sort our Lego Mindstorm kit, however.

What I did, was get a large fishing tackle box from Walmart. They are awesome for this. Several drawers, and each draw has adjustable walls, so I can make space for the really long pieces, as well as many smaller squares. There's also room at the top to keep assembled sections and/or the computer "brain" module. When we're done, it's got a handle so it's easy to transport.

I'm a little obsessive about how Legos are sorted.

Every kit is in a ziplock bag with all the pieces and the instruction booklet. I spent a whole winter doing it b/c without the pieces DS doesn't have the patience to find them in the general bins. I'd rather he have the opportunity to reassemble kits whenever he wants and to play with them as he wants. He likes to put them together, then bust of parts to Frankenstein it into other things. When he's done, I resort so they're all back in the bag with instructions again.

The extra pieces are separated by colors in their own bins. Oh, and the kits are all in large bins separated by theme (City, Star Wars, and other).

My DD is like that with Barbie accessories! I will find a random Barbie shoe and she'll be like- oh yes, that is from the Barbie that I got that came with the hairstyling chair for my 5th birthday from my friend Abby.

I used to separate them by kit or "genre", but those days are loooong gone. Now they all go into a big Rubbermaid container.
I don't know about the digging around sound, but can say I hate the sound of the whole tub being dumped out!!!

Re: How do you organize Legos?

Every set is in it's own ziplock with the instructions. Larger sets are displayed in a bookcase, the booklet is still in it's own ziplock with any extra pieces.

Basic/non set legos are all mixed up in a plastic lego box.

Minifigures are in a large ziplock- they can pull the character out as they need.
