Which Disney resort?

I usually stay off site.
I will be going solo with 3 kids (2,6&7) for 3 nights (2 park days at Magic Kingdom and Epcot).
Prices of Animal Kingdom, Key West, pirate room at Caribbean, port orleans and French Quarter are similar. I’m comparing base rooms, so my views will be bad. Wilderness lodge is a bit more... but doable.

Is any of these really really great? We will be using their transportation and pools. Don’t want a SUPER long bus ride (but don’t want to pay $100 a night for that). Need a good pool (older kids swim well). Need ease. All kids walk and no stroller for the trip (it’s part of a longer Florida trip). Will be HOT (end of July).

Thanks!

Which Disney resort?

French Quarter and Wilderness lodge are both great with kids! they're both pretty small, easy to get around. wilderness lodge the rooms are all in one building, which is nice. also, the quick boat to MK is great (where you can get the monorail to EPCOT, too...) we never had a problem with the buses either.... French quarter has a boat to disney springs, if you were planning to go there at all... and both have great pools, too.
Another thing- definitely rethink the no stroller thing!! especially with a 2 year old. my 6 year old rode in the stroller last summer... and honestly, i would have if it would hold me LOL its A LOT of walking, even if you plan on taking breaks in the afternoon. and i look at anything that cuts down on whining as a good thing! I haven't stayed at those hotels so no help there but I would definitely rethink the stroller...especially with a 2 year old at the end of July. We went in August when DD was 2 and she spent a lot of time in the stroller...it was also nice to be able to put stuff in the basket underneath and not carry it. DD will be 4 when we go again this August and we will definitely use a stroller again. You can rent one if you won't have your own stroller down there with you on your trip. Have fun!!!

We stayed at FQ in January and I really liked that it was a small resort. My DD loved the pool and water slide. They had games and crafts every day by the pool, a movie on the lawn at night, smores, etc... We didn’t use the bus transportation, but since it’s a small resort there was only one bus stop. We did use the boat to Disney Springs a couple nights and it was so convenient.

Did you chose to drive to the parks? Why? I will have a car. It’s an option.

I’m seriously thinking about FQ. Price difference will pay for a day at parks. Not staying long enough to really spend a day at the resort.

Thanks! I will definitely consider renting one if we get over heated. We have gone with and without and it’s easier for us without... that said, our youngest is a pipsqueak, doesn’t nap and is easy to carry if she really breaks down (though last time I went solo was November and she walked til 11PM... and was actually a sight that people were commenting on). I have a feeling our whole family is low level hyperactive... at least that’s how I rationalize the energy and lack of sleep.

Yes, we had a rental car so we drove to the parks. We like to come and go as we please and didn’t want to have to wait for transportation.

We did the same. You park for free at the parks when you stay on property so it was so worth it for us to drive to the park. You don't have to be on someone else's schedule, waiting around in the heat, and don't have to be squished and possibly without a seat on the bus. Disney just recently started charging for parking at the hotels but it's minimal and we will continue to rent cars while we're there.

I have stayed at Animal Kingdom, FQ & Old Key West. I love all three for different reasons. Can't beat the savannah view rooms at AK. With small kids it's fabulous. OKW is my home resort. I stay here most of the time. Lots of internal bus stops, but doable. FQ is my FAVORITE moderate resort. Close walk to everything within the resort. Fun pool, and only one bus stop.

I agree with PP - I wouldn't travel to Disney without a stroller (even if it's just an inexpensive umbrella stroller). The rentals in the park are expensive and uncomfortable. Calling for one from one of the "official" Disney stroller rental places is unlikely to get you what you need/want on short notice.

Re: Which Disney resort?

OKW is good if you’re looking for more serene and separate, and IMO, the bus rides aren’t too painfully away. There’s nothing to write home about regarding the resort though. It’d been our first home resort and our favorite for the seclusion feeling. AK is just awesome and when else can you stay with animals roaming around your resort but the bus rides are longer to the parks. I haven’t stayed at the others.

Driving to the MK is a pain. If you stay offsite you are used to that though. I won't stay offsite anymore due to the hoopla to get to the MK. When you stay onsite, the bus/boat takes you right to the park. Not the Trans. Ticket Center.

Out of those choices, I would do the Wilderness Lodge. Great place, and love the boat ride to MK

We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside in April. They have a fun pool for the kids with a slide and sprinklers. FQ has one also with a big dragon slide, but we didn't go to that pool- just saw it from the boat ride to Disney Springs. We used their transportation and we never waited long for a bus- they come very regularly. We didn't go to park when it immediately opened and never stayed til closing or beyond, so we never had a problems with an overcrowded bus, but July could be a different story, so I can't comment there.

of those I would stay at the Wildness lodge - especially if you plan to do two days at MK. I would utilize the Disney transportation. Its so much easier than driving yourself.
