Florida Keys - Key Largo
Anyone been?
Or any of the close Keys to it?
We are going next month. Staying at an awesome looking resort on Key Largo but will have a car so we can explore a bit.
I know Key West is too far, but anyone been to Key Largo or any of the Keys close by to it? Any restaurant or must see recommendations?

Florida Keys - Key Largo
You could do key west. It’s only 2 hrs ish from Miami so it’s doable. Islamorada is one of the other bigger islands. But key west will have the most to do.

Re: Florida Keys - Key Largo
I stood in Key West and when we drove down we stopped at Robbies in Isla Morada to feed the Tarpons. There are shops, bar and restaurant there.

Re: Florida Keys - Key Largo
I just was there last week. Stayed in Playa Largo resort in key largo one night and then drove to Key West. Not sure where you are staying. Had lunch in Islamorada at Morada Bay on the beach and it was excellent. Also went to Twisted Shrimp and had a small order of fried shrimp due to trip advisor reviews. Key West was my favorite. Loved Islamorada as well.

It was very nice. We were only there for a short stay. While pool and beach chairs were taken, it seemed empty everywhere early evening. There wasnt many people in any restaurants. The one on water had three tables filled. We got there late afternoon and left early next day. Probably wasnt worth the money since we got there late. Very quiet laid back resort. Maybe a little too quiet for us. I think we once spoke about Margaritaville. Its much more quiet. They said it was 61% capacity while we were there.

I think the reason the restaurants are dead is that they are way overpriced. All the trip advisor reviews I have read talk about how expensive it is to eat there. There are so many affordable options nearby so everyone just goes to dinner elsewhere. That is what we plan to do since we'll have a car. When I looked at the menu of one of the restaurants and eggs $19 I was like- NOPE! We'll be going off site to eat. Funny you mention Margaritaville because when we went it was dead- but that was because Hurricane Matthew had just missed them 2 days before and a lot of people cancelled their reservations since it was supposed to be a direct hit to that area. I waited it out and when the area was spared any real damage we came down as planned and we had the whole place to ourselves. They even extended our check out until 5 pm since we had a late fight and the place was empty! Obviously that's not the norm, I know. So I have to imagine this will be more lively than that! But to be honest I'm fine with it being mellow. I've had a stressful month, all I want is to lie by the pool with my book and someone to serve me drinks.

I think I remember you went during a hurricane time. Yes, I read about the $$ at the restaurants. We went to the one on the water for a drink at sunset and barely nobody was there but they banged us over the head for a drink. The same as the beach bar there and nobody was sitting there. We ended up asking the bartender of a good place to have a drink at night and he sent us to a real hole in the wall scary place. Really pis$ed me off. If you are looking to do lunch in Islamorada or take a drive, I followed trip advisor for suggestions. Key West took longer than I thought to get to from there, but it was ok as we were staying there four nights. I think you will enjoy the hotel. It was an upscale feel. Have fun! Can't wait to go back to the keys.

Just got back. OMG it was beautiful. Probably one of the most beatuiful resorts in terms of the grounds ,etc that I have stayed at. Everything was really great except i had a major issue with housekeeping not cleaning our room one day. I raised a bit of a riot and from then on we got VIP service when it came to getting our room cleaned. LOL It was busy on the weekend, but got really really dead on Monday. I guess it's off season with kids back in school now. One night the restaurant on the dock was closed actually because not enough people were there to make it worth opening. We pretty much ate off site though- way too expensive. I really really loved the keys though and the resort itself was stunning. So relaxing.
Definitely going back.
