Hawaii with kids
Our daughter has been asking to go to Hawaii for a few years now honestly before I think she even knew what Hawaii even was. DH and I have never been but we are thinking of taking them next year. Are there any really good resorts for kids other than Aulani (we're doing disney 2x this year so no more Disney) We have a lot of starwood points so a sheraton/westin or marriot would be good but open to anything.

Re: Hawaii with kids
We took kids a few years back stayed in Oahu at the Marriott beach resort. It was great they had the zoo and aquarium within walking distance. The beach was right across the street and plenty to see walking around the town at night. The first time we did some excursions the second time we just stayed around the area.

Re: Hawaii with kids
We stayed on Maui at a Hyatt on Kaanapali beach, from what I remember I'm pretty sure there was a Westin, Sheraton and Marriot nearby too. It was a nice location and a short drive into Lahaina town where there was dining/shopping.

Re: Hawaii with kids
We’ve been a couple times with my 5 year old.
While we stayed at aulani each time, we also stayed for a few nights in Waikiki (and visited a ton of resorts in the area) and visited Turtle Bay resort (also on Oahu).
I’d recommend you check out Turtle Bay resort (great swimming area and pools). It’s not really near anything else though. But they have everything there. It’s on the north shore so the waves can be a bit crazy though...
On waikiki beach on oahu, look at the Sheraton, Moana Surfrider, royal Hawaiian, and the hilton Hawaiian Village. A lot of people love the Hilton and they do fireworks every Friday night. Huge resort but very family friendly. All of these hotels are on the beach and walking distance to one another (although the Hilton is kind of separate and at the end).
If we went to Maui we would have stayed at the Grand Wailea. Supposedly fantastic for families. Has a kids club and great facilities.
...And I know you said you weren’t interested in Aulani, but it’s really fantastic for families. You honestly wouldn’t KNOW you were at a Disney resort unless you sought out finding the characters (they go places at designated times for pics/autographs), did a character breakfast, or sent your kids to the insanely amazing kids club (sometimes the characters visit). I found the service to be fantastic and the amenities great. Oh. And the spa?! Best I’ve ever been to. Checked our daughter into the kids club and treated myself! Ha!
No matter where you go - enjoy it. Hawaii is such a special beautiful place. I never had a desire to visit in the past...but now it’s one of my favorite places in the world. Very cool, spiritual place.
