Thanksgiving SIDES?

DH decided he wants to spend Thanksgiving home, just the three of us, so i'll be making my first ever turkey. Chat Icon

I have no idea what SIDES to make.

DH hates sweet potatoes with marshmallow, i can't stand any gravies or cream of ______ soups, DS has never had an american stuffing so not sure how that will go over.

We're also having a friendsgiving leftover potluck the next day, so extra leftovers are welcome.

Thanksgiving SIDES?

I usually do a small thanksgiving dinner before the big holiday and I usually do mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with a pecan topping, and green bean casserole. That's plenty for us and it all makes great leftovers. If I'm feeling ambitious this year I may try cornbread stuffing.

This is also on my radar for something totally different. Roasted squash, brussel sprouts and pecans.

Google Paula Deens Corn Casserole. So good I eat it for breakfast the next morning . Chat Icon
And super easy.

Also, Stay at Home Chef... mashed sweet potatoes with cinnamon honey butter. Looks amazing.

Re: Thanksgiving SIDES?

Sides are the best part of Thanksgiving!

So you don't want the classics, like sweet potatoes with marshmallows, green bean casserole (because it's made with cream of) or stuffing. NOT A PROBLEM!

-What about a good Macaroni & Cheese?
-Soft rolls or croissants?
-A big Italian salad?
-What about baby potatoes roasted with salt/pepper/garlic and rosemary?
-Would he try a Sweet Potato Pie?
-You can pan-fry/steam String Beans with almonds and evoo and lemon.
-You can make mashed acorn squash with maple syrup.
-What about a special Soup, Pumpkin or Butternut Squash?

This is basically what we were thinking. Originally my aunt was hosting but she just had knee surgery. Then my mom, but my father is in the hospital, so now it's going to be at my aunt's house, but my sister and I are cooking for the first time ever and we're shitting ourselves. Chat Icon

My aunt/uncle are taking care of the bird, but we're doing all the rest.

We said either mac and cheese or lasagna, carrots, either broccoli or caulifower, corn on the cob, roasted potatoes, and stuffing. Oh and either cornbread or some kind of big fluffy rolls.

I think we may try Hofstra's crumb cake for dessert!

In case you decide to go the mashed potato route, this is the BEST and you can even add roasted garlic for more flavor!
