Do you have a slow cooker? throw it in there! This recipe is sooo easy and it always comes out great.

Best way is to boil it for 3-4 hours with potatoes, carrots and cabbage until it falls apart.. ... The cut of meat itself can vary based on how fatty it is and how much it will shrink when cooking

corned beef and cabbage... help
I make my corned beef in a crockpot. The veggies I just boil in a separate pot by themselves.

Re: corned beef and cabbage... help
i made it.
SO bought the meat that already came with the seasoning packet. i didn't even know that existed lol.
well, i did a stove top version.
meat, plus packet, plus one onion and water.
i added garlic and bay leaf. i used beef broth instead of water.
then added the cabbage, carrots (there were supposed to be potatoes, but someone ate all the potatoes in the house).
SO loved it. he separated some leftovers for today and put a sticky note so no one touches it.
i, on the other hand, did not care for it AT ALL.
i'll make it again for him because it was a LOT easier than i imagined, but i won't be having any.
thanks for the help. i really thought it was a much more complicated dish.

corned beef and cabbage... help
It's silly easy if you buy the packet with the directions like you mentioned. You couldn't pay me to eat it, either. Mil makes it and I will only eat the potatoes with mustard on them. I usually make shepherds pie on St. Patrick's day

I make it for my husband, but also don't eat it at all.
I like that you just throw everything in a pot and leave it for hours.
I usually make colcannon or whatever it is called with it... and that's a pain to make.
i also make a fancy irish soda bread and now that is delicious and i eat. i put like orange zest and dried cranberries in mine. yum yum

If you make it on the stove or in a crockpot you should broil it in the oven for a few minutes before serving. I like to smear brown mustard on top before broiling in the oven. Try it that way and I bet you will like it.

I always cover the meat with spicy brown mustard and brown sugar before broiling it.
