Has anyone been to lake george recently with little kids? We went years ago before having kids, so I don't remember what kid-friendly activities were up there. We're trying to decide between spending 3 nights (2 full days) at a motel right in town, or spend 1 night at Great Escape at the indoor waterpark hotel, which would also give us access to the theme park, and then 2 nights at the motel in town. But that would only give us one full day at the lake. Dh wants to spend all the nights in the motel so we can just really relax, but thinking realistically, with 2 little kids, I dont anticipate a whole lot of relaxing Chat Icon and other than a steamboat ride, mini golf, and maybe fort william Henry, what else is there to do with kids ages 3 & 6 at the lake?

I had no idea! That's so sad- we went there when my daughter and nephew were younger and they loved it. And I remember going as a little kid. It was so perfect for younger kids.

Lake George

http://www.magicforestpark.com/ According to this it is still open

I was there Summer of 18 and we went. They did sell the park but the new owners said they are keeping it open.

Oh that is WONDERFUL!

I saw something on the news and they sold the statues... we loved that place when my son was young.

Ok - then I definitely recommend this place for you to take your younger kids over Great Escape.

I had read some bad reviews of Magic Forest, so we weren't considering it, but I will look into it again. According to their website they are still open. And they have a dinosaur exhibit which looks interesting, although a bit expensive for what it is. But I will read more reviews and look into it more. Thanks!

We're going this year and spending 3 nights at great escape and 3 at a motel in town on the lake. we have gone the last 2 years and stayed for 4-5 nights on the lake and in town. When we went last year, I had 2 kids, 7 and 2.

There are things to do, but it is a laidback sort of vacation. If you stay on the lake there is normally the beach on the lake the kids dig in, go in the water etc. The kids love playing in the pool too. Its nice to be able play at the motel, walk around the village and get ice cream, lunch or dinner.

I've rented Kayaks or paddle boats and paddled around with the kids. Our motel had them for rent. We've rented a real boat and we cruised around the lake and my older son has tubed behind it, the little guy was too small.
I did a 1/2 hour rental on a jet ski and I took my older son on that to play around the lake.
My older son and I went parasailing.
They have go carting
lake cruises
They have a ropes/adventure course in the area as well, that I've been to, but haven't taken the kids.
They have fireworks Thursday nights and we saw live music one night at the main park in town.

Basically, depending on the age of your kids, there is plenty to do/ or not, depending on the speed you want your vacation to go. We normally did one "bigger" thing a day, and spent the rest of the day at the beach/pool. I haven't stayed at the Great Escape lodge before. But if you're planning to go to the park, its probably worth staying there. We went last year and the kids liked it, but are staying there this year to do the water park 1 day and the amusement park another.

I live in the area and the Dinosaur Park got overall good reviews from several local mom groups although it is pricey.

We don't frequent Lake George so I do not have many ideas for up there.

Re: Lake George

Stay in town for 2 nights. Plenty to do. Arcade, Fort Wiliam Henry, Minnie Ha Ha, drive to Great Escape for one day, etc. You won't be bored.

Lake George

As Goobster mentioned, there are old-fashioned paddle wheel riverboats like the MinneHaha that are awesome for the fireworks show on Thursday night. There's stuff to do in nearby Chestertown, too
