Dog peeing in the house all of a sudden
My 3 year old dog has never peed in the house. He was always fine to leave for many hours home alone. Lately however when we go out he pees on our area rug and in my son’s room ( where he often sleeps during the day). It’s so bad! We have ruled out medical reasons. It’s definitely behavioral. Any idea how to stop this? Is there such thing as a behaviorist for a dog? I’m so frustrated ??.

My guess is he's angry/sad he's being left alone even if it didn't bother him before. I would put a belly band on him.

Has there been any changes in your daily routine? Sounds like he’s upset at you guys for whatever reason For now I would close your sons bedroom door when you aren’t home and there are behaviorists for dogs. Are you sure he doesn’t have a UTI? Have you been taking him out as often? Is he drinking more because of the heat? Poor pup and you! I wish dogs could talk lol

Re: Dog peeing in the house all of a sudden
Crate him when you leave or give him a wee wee pad or Close all doors to rooms with rugs. Stop it now. My little dog is 13.5 years old this past February he was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and went on meds (no water pills, other meds) and he pees in the house at least 2x a day. They say dogs don’t know spite but let me tell you, this is definitely spite. If I ignore him for too long, he pees. If I leave the house multiple times a day, he’ll pee. I think I extra babied him with his diagnosis so when I don’t give him 100% attention, he gets vengeful
So now I close all doors, pick up front door mat and just now put a wee wee pad tray down. Hoping it helps. If not, it’s the crate when I’m out. Have to. I’m going through nature’s miracle and paper towel like crazy.

Omg I always say I wish he could talk! Nope, he’s been to the vet. No UTI. He’s extremely attached to DH and I feel like if we leave the house together he does this. When my husband is at work already and I leave him home alone, he hasn’t done it. It’s like he’s pissed ( pun intended) that my husband is leaving and is acting out.

Ugh I feel your pain! Oh I absolutely think my guy is being spiteful! Yes my DH mentioned possibly crating but we feel so bad because he was never a created dog. I will feel so sad if it comes to that.

I know exactly what you mean. My little guy was never really crated. He has it and actually likes being in there. It’s his “room”. But for your sanity and the sake Of your floors lol , you may have no choice.
If not a crate, can you gate him off in the kitchen or something so at least he has room to roam but is in one spot ?
Your dog is still young so you def have a good shot at correcting this behavior. Look into a trainer. Professional help is worth it

Re: Dog peeing in the house all of a sudden
He’s really being spiteful and you have to quarantine or crate him.
I have a 4lb Yorkie who is 10 and the “King”. He just does wtf he wants. Little shirt will pee on the pad one minute and then walk right pass it and pee near it the next. Anyway we just moved and started putting both dogs in the crate because we don’t trust him. Our old house we used to quarantine them to the garage with a pad. However we are in a lot smaller apartment and the only option was to put them in the crate.
When I tell you the “King” will hold his pee till we get home and walk him, it’s crazy, because this is also the same dog who pees on my floor when we are home for no reason but to do it (& not on the pad).

Re: Dog peeing in the house all of a sudden
One of my dogs is actually starting acupuncture today to help alleviate neck/back pain, but our visit also said that it could help with his anxiety. He gets very anxious when we leave the house as well. Maybe you could consider looking into acupuncture?

Maybe your dog has a bladder infection? I would take him to the vet just to rule that out.

If you think he’s anxious look into a thunder shirt My little guy has one and it’s helped dramatically! He’s super attached to me (my fault, I’m home pretty much all day) It won’t help with his pee problem but will definitely keep him calmer I got mine on chewy.com :)

We’ve brought him numerous times and he got full workups and Testing and he is fine. Medical issues have basically been ruled out. Seems very much behavioral.

He may be marking the areas if he goes in the same spots every day. I would shut him off to those spots before totally crating him - once he gets his scent there he may keep returning to them.

Re: Dog peeing in the house all of a sudden
My cat did the same thing. After hundreds spent at the vet multiple times, it was diagnosed as behavioral. My vet put her on Prozac. The peeing stopped with the medication.

Thanks for this idea. Never saw these before. He's a fiesty one lol, I'd just be afraid he'd figure out a way to bite it off! Worth a try though.

Re: Dog peeing in the house all of a sudden
Thanks everyone. The more I think about it, I think it comes down to anxiety. I'm thinking going the route of cbd oils, etc. I feel bad for him. I am going to discuss anxiety with his vet. I can't keep coming home to a rug covered in pee
