Friend's HUsband in Hospital..
My good friend's husband has been in the hospital since last friday fighting an infection that the docs are having a hard time managing. She has told me she is stressed and overwhelmed. i have offered to help my bringing over food or watching her kids but she says that her parents are watching her kids and they are ok for right now. I dont want to be intrusive.. but I do want to help in any way i can.. any suggestions on what I could do to help, or even just cheer her up a bit?

As someone who’s husband was just in the hospital for 4 days... just be on standby. Text her a couple times a day as a reminder that you’re there if she needs Anything. She probably has everything covered like she said but something may come up and before she panics, she’ll have that text from you and may jump at the offer. Just Don’t ask how he’s doing too much bc she’s probably getting 12 texts a day like that. I was copy and pasting in so many texts his current state just to update everyone.
Once he’s home and he’s ok, she WILL need a day for herself. A massage , facial, whatever she Into. I’m already planning one for next week for myself because I don’t know how I’m functioning. So maybe a gift card to her nail place or favorite massage spot. She’ll appreciate the hell out of that !

Re: Friend's HUsband in Hospital..
My SO was in the hospital for a few days last year. It was exhausting. The thing I needed the most was for someone to just be there for me if I needed it. I also needed time away, so maybe a lunch away from visiting hours would be helpful. Rides to the hospital would have been helpful and just someone to help out with everyday things. Things like what do I need to bring to the hospital and what questions I should ask the doctor and being an advocate for him.
I would come home exhausted and the idea of just having to come home and do laundry (they don’t give hospital gowns in Germany) or cleaning would set me over the edge. A gift card for take out would have been great, too.
I didn’t get any of those things, but I made sure to take time away and just force myself to take care of myself. The few days after I was so tired, so any kind of help with housework would have been very helpful.

I'd imagine it would be helpful to have someone clean the house - maybe right before he comes home from the hospital and then a couple of weeks later, especially if he's still on bed rest or taking it easy.

Friend's HUsband in Hospital..
Maybe get her an e-gift card and or something like a mobile Starbucks gift card so she can get coffee. If he’s in stony brook they have a Starbucks! Coffee is my savor when my kid has been hospitalized
