Autographed memorabilia

I have someone in my life that is almost impossible to buy gifts for - yet every time I do buy him a gift, he is amazed that I actually got him something that he really likes hadn't thought of getting for himself, so now the pressure is on lol. I recently thought of something that I would like to get him for Christmas - an autographed book (not sports related), but I have no idea how to tell if it's authentic or not. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any ideas on how to go about making sure the signature is real?

tough one. you'd have to go by a certificate of authenticity if you're not buying it from a dealer but those certs get faked too

Not to be snarky but would the recipient know it’s fake?

I know for example my dad wouldn’t and would love anything signed by an eagles player.

So while of course you don’t want to pay a ton of money for something fake, If you try your best and the person doesn’t suspect then you are all good.

Counterpoint: my father in law got my husband a signed framed drum head from his favorite band that he should love. But DH thinks it’s fake so it’s never been hung up and rots in our basement storage area. So it’s a risk if the person is a skeptic.
