Help me plan a menu please
I have a really close friend I haven't seen in forever coming to visit and she is bringing her family of 5. So there will be a total of 6 adults and 2 kids. (8 people). The approximate timeline of the visit is 10am-2pm. I have no idea if they will come late or early, and they discussed leaving as early as 1 or staying as late as 5. I am guessing it'll be 10-2. I would like to serve a lunch, I was thinking finger type foods/appetizers maybe. Just because I am lacking ideas. The only food allergies are shrimp/seafood. So shrimp cocktail is out of the question. I definitely want to make a fancy cake to serve for dessert/snack. And I want to make bruschetta I think. But other than those two ideas, I am literally blank, which is so unlike me. Tell me what to serve please!

I'd probably put out fresh fruit and nuts when they first get there since it's early for lunch stuff if they come at 10.
Not sure what I'd do for lunch, that's always the hardest to plan aside from summer bbqs imo. I'm always a fan of baked pasta dishes like ziti or lasagna. It's an easy crowd pleaser and paired with a big green salad and fresh bread it can be filling or light.
A totally different route could be something like chili. Make a salad, cornbread, and put out a few toppings and some chips. You could even do two kinds to give people options.

This is what we do when we have an informal family get together. Everyone in the family contributes something because there are a lot of us and even more when friends drop in.
Chips / veggies and dips - hot clam, salsa, onion dips. Cheese and crackers Prosciutto bread, olive bread Swedish or sweet and sour meatballs Then : Sometimes muffins Bagels, butter, variety of cream cheeses, egg and tuna salads, cold cuts and sliced cheeses. Antipasto platter Potato, macaroni, pasta, green salads on the side. Fruit platter, cookies, brownies, a cake or two for dessert.
Stuff that doesn't require a lot of attention from the host(ess) for cooking, and is easy to pick on, easy to clean up.
