anyone want to help me plan a simple Christmas menu?
we usually have my mother in law and my husband's aunt come over Christmas morning ( around 11am), eat lunch and then my husband and I and the kids head to my mother's house by 3pm.
The menu for the passed few years has been a honey glazed ham and sides but I'm over it and want something different.
any thoughts? it can't be too labor intensive or expensive.
I was thinking of doing a baked shrimp scampi as an appetizer with crusty bread for dipping. ( I can prep that ahead) but can't think of what else to serve.
a roast beef? a stuffed pork? or a pasta dish? if so, what kind.
any ideas, greatly appreciated!

we usually do roast beef, mashed or roasted potatoes, carrots and broccoli.
for an appetizer we have brie bites or cheese and crackers.

I usually have my parents and in-laws over for dinner...usually have a little antipasto for apps, beef tenderloin for dinner (Fairway usually has it at a great price!), double stuffed potatoes, maple glazed carrots and roasted asparagus.

I think I would maybe go brunch, Quiche, salads (bagels if you or DH feelslike running out) , muffins, maybe a baked french toast, , fruit . Most of this can be done ahead !

I'd say brunch too. Same suggestions. Quiche or frittata (unless you like making Omelets to order) Hot cocoa bar or special coffee & chocolate spoons

Re: anyone want to help me plan a simple Christmas menu?
I always do a fancy Christmas brunch for my parents before we head up to my DH's cousin for Christmas afternoon/evening. It's a festive way to spend time with my parents in the morning, and it's relaxed (and they can play with DS and his Christmas morning loot).
It's easy because I make some things ahead. I usually do some kind of quiche or egg casserole/dish.
I have done Ina Garten's baked blueberry blintzes - so good!
I also have a recipe for baked French toast with almonds and blueberries. One year we made gingerbread waffles.
I usually make a coffee cake for dessert (one year I made Williams-Sonoma raspberry sour cream crumb cake - very good).
A big fruit salad, coffee. We always have bellinis or mimosas.
I recommend going the brunch route, too!

I agree. My mom and sister are coming over X-Mas late morning and I plan on doing brunch.
I plan on making a bacon/egg/cheese quiche, french toast casserole, and sausage and potato hash browns. My plan is to start prepping all of it at night on the 23rd.

Re: anyone want to help me plan a simple Christmas menu?
I also say a fancy, hearty brunch.
Christmas brunches are huge and I'm sure if you google it you can get a ton of ideas.
Here are some of my favorites: -Something with eggs like a quiche. Quiche is always delicious and you can throw in everyones favorite vegetables and maybe some meat. -A meat (breakfast sausage, or bacon or ham). -Def. some sort of cranberry muffin or scone. -Cinnamon rolls with the icing are always delicious. -Coffee Cake. -Bagel Platter with cream cheese -You can also add tuna salad or egg salad or a cold pasta salad to make it a little more lunch-brunch.

I agree with a brunch, it would be a lot easier. You can do a quiche, bagels/muffins, sausage/bacon, fruit

I agree. There is nothing like a fancy but good hearty bunch. If you want to add a meat, those thin fancy pork chops are great, easy, and not messy.

Def a brunch. Bagels, cold cuts, maybe a nice homemade potato salad, or maybe quiche (so easy), fruit salad.
