Pot of Sauce

I plan on making sauce tonight for Christmas Day Dinner.

If I make it tonight (Friday); do you suggest I freeze it for Wednesday? Do I bother freezing it?

How long should does it keep in fridge for; anyone know?

Thanks.

I am pretty easy going about eating food that is prepared ahead of time -I make all my lunches for the week on Sunday. In this case, however, I would freeze it. You don't want to be responsible for people getting food poisoning.

Yes, I would freeze it. Fresh sauce will stay in your fridge safely for 3-5 days, so you're at the tail end. Anything over 3 days, and I would freeze it.

Absolutely freeze it. Tomato sauce should not be kept more than a day or two in the fridge as it is VERY susceptible to developing mold quickly given the high moisture content. Freeze it and thaw it the day you need to use it. I like to thaw it in the Crock Pot, I don't use up stove space and it will also stay warm until you're ready to use it.

Thanks Hofstra. I cant use crock pot because I am taking your advice and cooking the Ham. Chat Icon

I will probably take it out Christmas Eve and put in fridge. I hope that is enough time.

You're welcome! If it doesn't defrost quickly enough you can throw it in microwave to soften it up some more then warm on stovetop.

Good luck with the ham. Merry Christmas!!
