Birthday party theme help
My dd is having a unicorn themed party. There will be boys there.
For favors she wants to include a unicorn item like a key chain.
What can/should I give the boys?
In the past when we did Barbie I did army for boys can’t think of an equivalent of unicorns for boys (besides maybe horses but I’m not looking to do that )

Re: Birthday party theme help
we went to a girl's birthday party and then boys got squishy scented unicorns in their goodie bags. none of them minded. in fact, they were trading to get the scent they wanted. lol

Re: Birthday party theme help
How old are they? I'd either stick with the same for all or any other key chain for the boy. Maybe a yeti? lol just thinking of a fun mythical creature they might like.

I agree. I hate the gender stereotypes of toys. Maybe there is a little boy that likes unicorns and a little girl that dislikes them.
I know when I was young, I hated Barbie. I never had one. I didn’t like dolls either and I would feel a sense of embarrassment if I got a toy that was doll related-tea set related. I think the 4 year brat in me even cried. My mom of course took me aside and said I hurt my aunt’s feelings and I did apologize.
My point is that you can’t please everyone, and everyone has different tastes.

Same. My son likes “girl” toys just as much as “boy” toys. He doesn’t differentiate between the two.

My 6 yo DS wanted a cozy dozy bear from xmas pretty sure it was considered a "girl" toy it came with a purple/pink pacifier and blanket guess what I got it for him anyway. His sister got this nail stamper and he wanted it on his finger so she painted his nails and stamp them I dont mind any of this.
However if he got a unicorn key chain I am pretty sure he would be giving it up to his sister.
And while I clearly dont my mind letting my son do all the above I have a friend who would never let any of her sons that do I agree no but its her life.
my DD is turning 9 most boys will be 8 or 9 and I am pretty sure most are not going to hang unicorn key chains on their book bags.
I am having unicorn cookies made everyone will get that if I get unicorn gift bags everyone will get that too, and while i know most people throw out what they get as favors I rather try to give them something everyone will use. So to play it safe I rather get the boys a key chain they may actually put on their book bags
(PS i may not even do key chains but either way what ever unicorn item i do get i still will like to have boy alternative)

Birthday party theme help
Its a party favor. Most kids will forget about it in a day or so.
There is no need to force gender stereotypes onto kids. There is no such thing as a girl toy or a boy toy - unless they are being operated with their genitals.

See that's exactly the thing. You can try to not force gender stereotypes and be progressive all you want- but guess what? 9 year old boys are still 9 year old boys. The great majority wouldn't want a unicorn. Younger kids- sure. Before they are old enough to have already formed their opinions. But at 9- I'd rather give the boys something they would want.

Birthday party theme help
Gender norms aside, it’s a unicorn themed birthday party. I don’t think anyone would show up to a unicorn themed party and then be outraged to receive a unicorn themed favor.

thank you someone who sees my point! didn't think it was that big of a deal to want to give a favor that boys would actually maybe want!
after i posted this i thought of maybe finding something dragon related if I can!

Re: Birthday party theme help
My 8 year old twins would love unicorn poop or slime or anything dragon related (keychain, etc.). They would not use a unicorn keychain. If they got one, they would just give it to their cousin.

I agree with unicorn poop candy, or unicorn slime. I have found both at the dollar store.
