WWYD - using same birthday party theme as a friend

I'm not sure if this is a silly question or not, but sometimes I feel like I have no gauge of what upsets people.

My good friend is planning her DS' 1st birthday party (immediate family only, no friends).

She is having a cowboy theme. I knew this for a while.

She mentioned wanting to do WANTED posters, and I had another friend (not mutual) who did WANTED posters for her son's birthday, so I sent the pics of friend 2's posters to friend 1, and helped friend 1 design the template for the WANTED posters.

As I was doing this, I thought, what a great idea!! I love these posters. And of course, now I want to do the same thing for DS's 2nd birthday.

Neither of us are going to the other's party since we are both having family only.

Am I awful for even thinking of "stealing" her idea?

i'm not a creative person at all, but I wouldn't want to offend her.

Should I even ask if it is ok, or just try to think of a different theme?

i don't think there is ANYTHING wrong with you using the same theme - but for me personally, i'd just let her know and gage her response (if she seems ticked off, i'd likely change, but that's just me).

Ummm...it's a cowboy theme....!!!! I mean thousands of people use this theme every year. I say just do it and even let her know your doing it. Tell her she inspired you if anything!!

Since it's family only , I think you're fine.

While you don't have to clear a theme with a friend, I think it's a courtesy to do so if there is a large amount of mutal guests and if it were two big events. On some level, it would seem like a competitive.

edited - I'd also talk to her about sharing costs of decorations, etc if they're on different days.

Thanks guys, I will talk to her and try to get a sense of how she feels.

I kinda figured since there would be no mutual guests at the party it should be ok.
