Not gonna lie, I’m slowly losing my mind here

As most of you know, DH and I have been under a self quarantine because of his current medical state. We have been home since he got out of the hospital on March 6th. And even before that, we were home a whole week keeping him from getting any kind of viral bug that would prevent him from getting the surgery in the first place (everyone around us had a cold of some sort) so we have been “quarantined” for over 3 weeks already.

To think we can be stuck inside for another 2+ is making me want to crawl up the walls. Only so much Netflix. Shoveling potato chips and Oreos down my throat for days on end. Going to bed by 9pm and up at 6. We are exhausted from doing nothing. And every little thing he feels, I’m sure he’s got something and panic until he feels better again.

I will definitely run out of Xanax before we can get the f out of this house.

I miss wandering homegoods with a hot cup of coffee. Smelling candles and lotions at bath and body. Taking pictures of the 9 million #blessed signs I see at hobby lobby and sending them to my friends as a joke. Going to dinner with our besties and coming back to the house for cake, coffee and a quick game of taboo. Im missing everything about normal life. And the real quarantine hasn’t even started yet Chat Icon

Ugh. I'm sorry! It must be extra rough on you since your DH is recovering.

I am also going insane. I am actually claustrophobic, so I
take a drive twice a day with the windows down to stave off any anxiety. I also have 2 kids at home and (as much as I adore them) I am craving alone time! I miss my Saturday morning gym class and my trips to Starbucks. I miss getting together for playdates with friends.

I'm sorry. I know it's awful.

My concern is...because I always have to think ahead and god forbid I ever take one day at a time... when will this end?
When will it be safe to be in crowds again, at family gatherings, weddings. sporting events, concerts,?
Normal everyday things that all of a sudden are taboo?
When will it be ok to go to work, to school, to go on a train, to see a movie?
Like what will cause it to.all of a sudden go back to the normal human life that we have had for generations?
This virus will not be eradicated from the earth. Won't it always be here?
So what will make it ok to walk amongst it again?

Just thinking (or ranting) outloud. Because I'm very confused.

Same boat here. Not knowing what to expect is the worse. I'm living every day at a time, but everything being so unpredictable doesn't sit well with me.

Do you have any friends nearby that you can get out and walk with for an hour a day? The exercise and fresh air would probably be good. Or even by yourself listen to a podcast or some music? That’s what I have been doing, but mostly just to have a little alone time away from my kids! Also I plan to start Beachbody again on Saturday. Maybe look into getting a coach on Beachbody which will hook you up to a network of people. And you can do the workouts from home. I love them and I thought I would always need to be at a gym, but I find them to be very good. It totally sucks. I am glad I have my husband and kids but I do think it will only last another month or two and in the whole scheme of things that’s not so bad.

There are things that will cause things to go back to normal. First, flattening the curve will allow people to get it and recover and therefore have some immunity to it. Second, they are working on both treatments and vaccines. With modern technology it is only a matter of time before they come up with both. Then this will be treated more like the regular flu and we will be able to treat it as such. This is advice I have received from medical professionals so I hope that helps.

Ive read a ton of stuff on biology teacher groups. One thing said it could take up to 18 months, but that there would periodic social distancing. Like 2 months on, 2 months off, 2 months off, etc.

I can’t keep reading about it. It’s upsetting.

Thanks. I have heard nothing like this that shows HOW this will end and how we can go back to normal life... so this does help

That is why it is so important to flatten the curve right now. It buys us time. I know I was accused of being someone that picks fights on here (which I can assure you in 18 years of posting on here and LI weddings I have never been accused of that) but when I see someone complaining about having to appease a bored child potentially at the expense of someone’s LIFE it makes my blood boil. But I digress. If we can flatten the curve and stop the rapid transmission of this awful virus we will have more time to come up with treatment options and vaccines while at the same time not overwhelming the medical community and at the very least be able to provide supportive care to those that need it.

Re: Not gonna lie, I’m slowly losing my mind here

I am losing my mind here, too. I lost basically all my jobs that I have. I had nice interviews lined up and I have been searching for over a year for something good. Now I have to try to work out the whole system of getting unemployment. I hate paperwork in German, and paperwork in general.

The only thing that is keeping me sane is the fact that I know I’m not the only one to be going through this.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with all of this. You have a lot on your plate. I know that we live in the same town so if I can do something to help you, please let me know. Really. I don't mind.

Any time I think of the schools being closed until the end of the year, I get myself worked up. Thinking of all these HS seniors missing out on one of the most memorable times of your life makes me so sad. Even thinking of my son not getting to wrap up the year with his teacher who he adores so much. It was such an abrupt goodbye! I also can't handle thinking about what I will do with my kids from now through August. I can't work from home indefinitely and I can really give myself anxiety thinking about it.

I am praying the weather starts to cooperate better.

I downloaded the library app after seeing they released like 300k books for free
But the second I tried to start reading, I realized I wasn’t retaining a thing !

We’ve been walking outside when we can. But DH can get around the block and that’s it. It’s been a tough road with his recovery but we’re getting there.

It’s just that we’ve already been stuck like this for weeks on end. It’s going to be complete insanity to be stuck this way for only god knows how long ! DH and I just look at each other and start laughing because we’re like THIS CAN’T BE REAL LIFE??!!!!

I will say, during this time, I was able to find the silver lining in not being able to have children this past 9 years of trying. If there was a kid in the mix of all of this, I would have probably been in a psych ward somewhere. I give props to all of you who are teaching and entertaining little humans on top of everything else. I couldn’t imagine that stress. Especially with me having to care for DH in this capacity too. There’s no way I wouldn’t stroke out.

Yes, I am aware of that and I wasn't trying to address those concerns specifically. I do think a lot of people are in the same boat though, we are on the verge of a major recession/depression and most people were not at all prepared for it. The world is a scary place right now. Worldwide, governments will have to step in and help people through this.

No, I know. I know I am not alone in this. It’s just something I thought of at the moment because things are changing so rapidly and seem to be going downhill.

It’s just that your mind starts to go crazy.

I had to run out to the store today and I was so anxious looking at all the customers wearing gloves and masks. Like literally having anxious chest pains. I just wanted to get in and get out. And i saw people wearing gloves to push their carts, yet on their phones with the same gloves. Doesn’t make sense.
It’s such a weird and crazy time. But i get out every day to walk around the neighborhood and I’ve been doing workout videos in the house too.

yeah the glove thing makes me laugh.
The gloves will carry the germs too.
Touch something with the gloves then touch your face.
Or even grosser taking them off- you have to handle them
i'd rather just use my bare hands and wash the hell out of them

And on the mask thing- i have this weird skeeve factor about masks- even before all this.
The thought of breathing my own recirculated hot breath in that thing makes me want to vomit.
I could never be in healthcare. I see the dentist and hygenists wering them all day and I get chills.
I have no idea why but it grosses me out to no end
