Being that most of you now know about my DHs medical situation...
I figured I’d update.
The open wound has closed 50% within 10 days 
The nurse came yesterday (it’s now every other day for wound care) and measured. We were all so excited ! It definitely looks smaller but actually hearing the numbers was reassuring.
Really hoping that this closes up quickly and we can at least put that part of this whole thing behind us.

Very nice. I have surgery scheduled for May 4 (at this point...) and I'm scared about the wound closing, considering it will be so large.

That's a great number! Congratulations!!!!
My MIL had her elderly mom living with her, and she helped heal her wounds with great wound care and lots of protein in her diet. is that still something they're saying to do?

Yes! That was the first thing they said. Lots and lots of protein and walking to keep blood circulating. I’ve been giving him protein with every meal (mostly)
Thankful for my tuna fish obsession right about now lol
And when he can’t go out for a walk, he times 10 min walks around my first floor 3x a day. It all seems to be helping
