Going back to work

Today the topic came up of how we all felt about working back in the office once May 15th is here. You could tell there is definite hesitation in people's voices as we went around.

How do you feel about going back?

Re: Going back to work

I always work from home so it's not an issue and my husband works from home a couple days a week and for the month of August typically but his bosses told him they aren't going back to the office until Sept. so he will be working from home until Sept. I don't think he would want to go back.

I have talked to a bunch of moms about the possibility of school reopening even though that happening is so small. Some say they would continue to homeschool and not send them back. I would like to send my kids back to school. I wonder how they will handle that though if schools do reopen.

I wouldn't mind but I have a separate office where I can close the door and be away from everyone. I also work for a smaller office so there is maybe 30 people there.

ETA: I don't want to get in the elevator though. I'm not sure about the whole bathroom situation either Chat Icon

The elevator is my concern. Especially since we work in a fairly large building with a lot of other companies

Re: Going back to work

I would have no issue with it at all.
I was in the office up until the stay at home order and the virus was around then and had no issues.
I drive to work, have my own office, I don't need to use an elevator, I have hand sanitizer and wash my hands like crazy. I am also not in any high risk groups.
If they need someone to go back first, I'd be willing to go first and do anything they need me to do in terms of precautions.

Mask and wash your hands after you touch the buttons?

I feel great about it. They want us all working remotely when possible and since we have the capabilities I suspect it will go on beyond 5/1. I went to the office this afternoon and it felt good to be there. I miss seeing my colleagues in person and doing regular stuff. I hope there’s some return to normalcy. I don’t think schools are reopening though so there is much to consider.

No way I’m commuting back to the city anytime soon. I also can’t unless school/camp opens up but I would not be comfortable on mass transit anytime soon.

It scares me because I work in a school and my husband commutes daily on the LIRR. Going back exposes us. That being said my heart aches because I miss my job so much.

I'm going to try to go in one day this week.

I have my own office that's near the building entrance. It's unlikely I'd even see anyone if I went in.

Are you someplace else but LI as we now have a 5/15 date?

Well we are essential government workers so last we heard was 5/1 with our social distancing measures. I know it was extended until 5/15 they just didn’t announce for us but I imagine they will have us continue even longer than the 5/15.

Going back to work

I can’t go back until I have a place for my son to go. So 5/15 isn’t happening for me. But I have my own office and barely see people all day long. I’m fine with going back and would go back today if needed and I could.

I am ok with going back but I am sure we will ease back in slowly. Or work split schedules.

I probably will still continue to mostly work from home because I don’t know what to do with my kids when DH has to work.

I hate working from home, so in that regard, I can’t wait to go back. But based on conversations with my boss, we’re anticipating that it will look very different - no more in person meetings, and very likely that we’ll do a split schedule, with people alternating days to work from home. But that’s just “talk” for now. No one knows for sure

I can’t go back so as long as schools are closed but if they’re open, I would not mind going back a few days a week, and work from home the other days.

I am a non-clinical essential worker in healthcare, so I have been going to work every day. We wear masks. We wash our hands a lot. We stay apart as much as possible. We don't touch our faces. I feel like if we do the antibody test we will see many of us have had it already.

Re: Going back to work

I can't see getting on a subway by 5/15. I pretty much don't want to leave my apartment until at least the summer solstice, and I would be happy working form home permanently ( not because of the virus, just because i work better that way). I only slightly miss the faster internet at work.

I won't have to go in that early though- My company was downsizing when all this happened, so we left our old building & didn't rent new space yet.

Our new spaces is going to be super tiny (1 room with 7 people), so I am wanting to go in even less.

Going back to work

I would probably be okay with it. I work from home 2 days a week, and drive to my small office, where I have my own office and there are not many of us in my building anyway. But, it all depends on whether schools open back up anyway...

It would be difficult for me b/c I have my son every other week, so I don't see how I could since school and camps aren't open. But, if summer rolls around, I *might* think about going in when I don't have him (every other week) but I wouldn't want to have in person meetings with anyone.
