Dealing with chemo
Anyone have any tips on getting through chemo? I was fine last week, but this whole week has just been awful. I'm trying to drink as much water as possible and I'm eating as healthy as possible.
Sleep has been awful - I can fall asleep, but I'm awake between 1-4 almost every night. So I'm resting as much as possible since I'm feeling weak and sometimes shaky/dizzy.
I've only gone through 1 treatment, and I have 5 more to go (over 16 weeks). I can't imagine being like this the whole time. :(

Re: Dealing with chemo
I’m sorry you’re going through this. I don’t have any advice, but look up Jennifer Goldberg Rozenbaum on FB, insta or YouTube. She documented her entire breast cancer journey and I remember her talking a lot about chemo and what helped her.
I hope it gets a little easier as time goes on

Thanks for the recommendation. I ended up finding someone local that went through chemo last year and she's been a great person to talk to.
Today is probably the best I've felt in a week. Thankfully I don't go back until next week for the 2nd treatment.

I know you're watching your diet but I found sweet food items helped settled my stomach. I had a low appetite it was always easier to get a cookie with the jelly on top down my throat vs real food most of the time.
I swore after each dose I would never take another but always did.
Rest, stay hydrated, keep an eye out for issues that pop up, go for regular labs to check white count.

The dehydration is unreal! I'm always carrying water with me everywhere I go now.
I've found that I'm loving applesauce. It's sweet enough for my craving and the cool/smooth texture helps with the mouth sores.

Dealing with chemo
Just wanted to write a follow up - my second "bad" week wasn't nearly as bad. I made sure to drink a lot and not overdo it like I did the first week. Plus I think that it was just a shock to my system the first time.
I'm in the hospital now for my 3rd treatment (I get out on Monday) and I'm feeling pretty good. Sucks that my "bad" week will be during my birthday and Thanksgiving, but I'm hoping that it'll be more like my last "bad" week b/c that was more manageable.
Almost half way through the treatments (3 more hospital stays after this one)! I'm a little nervous about the PET scan after the 4th treatment b/c they want to make sure that the mass is actually shrinking. Once I have confirmation that all of this is actually doing something, then I can rest easier.
I got a port at the beginning of the 2nd treatment so they don't keep poking my veins and I've lost all my hair. I find walking around bald and showing off my port in a tank top - in public - sort of liberating. I'm not going to hide the fact that I have cancer. I'm making it and have a positive attitude and want to be proud of what I'm surviving right now. Of course, once it gets cold outside I'll have to cover my head for the warmth. :)

Dealing with chemo
Had another PET scan yesterday and I’m in remission!!!!! I still have to go thru the last 2 chemo treatments to make sure all the random small cancer cells are gone, but after that it’s over (other than random follow ups)!!

Dealing with chemo
I spoke too soon! I'm back in the hospital b/c of chest pains and it turns out I have a blood clot in my lung and mucositis (basically like mouth sores all down my esophagus). It's really painful to eat so I've been having Ensure/ice cream milk shakes. Hopefully once my body recovers I won't have anymore issues.

Dealing with chemo
Thankfully I was able to recover in about a week but wow that was painful!! I’m on blood thinners for the next 5 months to break up the blood clot but thankfully I don’t feel side effects like chest pains anymore.
And my hair is finally starting to grow back! Yay!
