I thought air travel to N.Y. needed a Covid test

My sister is in town for a week. Miraculously her state is not one on the quarantine list. However when I saw the news a few days ago I sent her the link which said air travelers regardless of state needed proof of Covid negative test within 3 days of flight. It is not easy in her state to get Covid tests (need a script from a dr and takes a long time for appt). She paid for a private test ($250) and thankfully got the results in 2 days. Negative (we weren’t worried about that part).

When she arrived at LGA she was fully prepared with her test results. No one even asked her or mentioned it. She doesn’t regret getting it (peace of mind) and she is going to get another one in NY before she leaves. I just cannot believe that after watching all the news channels and Cuomo’s mandates that no one even said a word to her in airport about itChat Icon

From what I hear there isn't much enforcement of anything. I think it's also an option to get the test, not a requirement. If you don’t it's the full 14 day quarantine.
I was just reading something on the state website...let me see if I can find it

Re: I thought air travel to N.Y. needed a Covid test

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced new guidelines allowing travelers to New York to “test out” of the mandatory 14-day quarantine

For any traveler to New York State from a noncontiguous state, US territory or CDC level 2 or level 3 country, the new guidelines for travelers to test-out of the mandatory 14-day quarantine are below:

For travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours:
Travelers must obtain a test within three days of departure, prior to arrival in New York.
The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days.
On day 4 of their quarantine, the traveler must obtain another COVID test. If both tests comes back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.

So I am reading this as a way to "opt out/test out" of the 14 day quarantine. Not a requirement, but rather an option

There is not much enforcement so its just a scare tactic. I have family that works for a popular airline and its laughable at best

You can’t believe the media and the news

I’m glad she got a test. Although $250 is a lot of money to spend, hopefully she can get a free one in NY at an urgent care.
If she wants a rapid antigen test they are $75 dollars at AFC urgent care results in 15 minutes while you wait.

I believe you can get a free test in NY at the state testing locations. Dh had to get it twice to try and see his dad in a nursing home. You call the number, ask for a test, they have you fill out info on a portal and they give you an appt time.
You drive up, get swabbed in your car, and the results post on the portal pretty quickly.
He didn't pay for it and no questions were asked to why he needed it.
So if she needs one to go home try that route. The number to call should be on the state website
