Office Closed
My office shut down today until further notice due to a positive test of a staff member. We've had the office at @ 25% capacity since the end of July. Due to all the privacy laws etc they are not telling other staff who had the positive test. They are just telling us to go get tested.
The lines at urgent care for testing near me have been upwards of 4 hours. I went to a state testing site, but it's going to take time to get results. This is my second time quarantining. At least the first time I had enjoyed a vacation.

That stinks! Are you able to WFH while no one can go in? I'm supposed to go back to work in my office starting 11/30, but I'm thinking there's a good chance that will not be happening

My son just got a rapid test at CityMD in Rocky Point. It was all done within an hour.

My boss had to take his son for a test because he had a fever and the doctor said the rapid is not as accurate. If it comes back positive you can be pretty sure you are positive, but if it comes back negative it is known for false negatives. Some places won't accept the rapid for returning to work or school etc that reason.

Rapid are quite unreliable. I really wish they would stop offering them.
If you were told you could have contact though, a negative test is peace of mind, but you should still quarantine for a full 14 days from potential exposure.

That's good to know. I did go to Stony Brook. I'm just one of the lucky9 other people that were in the office the same day as the person who tested positive.

I work for the hospital, if you went today and don’t have results by Wednesday call bioreference labs, they will give you the results over the phone. You should get them sooner the turn around time has been much quicker

Re: Office Closed
FWIW, if your office was just closed and you were just exposed, getting tested today would most likely be too early. The recommendation is to quarantine for the 14 days and get tested around day 9 until you develop symptoms sooner.

Thank you for this, but I was exposed last week. I don't know exactly when the infected person got results (Saturday, Sunday, or Monday). I do know the person got a test because they started showing symptoms - not that it matters because of the asymptomatic transmission. Depending on how long this person was carrying the virus before the test I had multiple contacts.

It's at Stonybrook Hospital. It's set up in one of the parking lots- all drive through. If would have to call the state number to request a test and they will send you there if that's the closest site for you.

Same with my husband. It waited about an hour on line. He did the rapid and they also did the one that comes back in a few days.

Office Closed
A coworker got exposed at a campground in september and he quarantined for 2 weeks and got tested- came back negative. None of us had any symptoms. My boss would never close the office, she gets quite mad and makes a stink about "why am I paying all this rent for?" . she hates the idea that we may be 'ordered to work from home again'. For a while it was just 3 of us until i think july when we returned to 100%
