Fever of 103.3 in 2 year old & the Dr's office is closed -- How much tylenol to give??
He has probably had a fever one other time so I feel like it's the first time I'm treating a fever. It was 101 this AM so I just tried keeping him as cool as possible. He's wanted no food or drink all day, seems to be playing ok inside so I thought I'd take him for a short walk up the block but now I just took his temp & it's up to 103.3 - I will give tylenol now but would you go to PM Ped with a fever this high??

I would personally go to PM ped to rule out an ear infection.

I would retake the temp after an hour of the tylenol and give him a nice lukewarm bath first. JMO.

I will go as soon as DH gets home from work at 6:30. I just gave him a dose of generic tylenol. We'll see what happens this hour.
Thanks ladies. He's never so sick so I freak out because I feel like I don't know what to do.

Does he have any other symptoms besides a fever? If not I would give him the tylenol, a cool bath, dress him in loose clothes tonight for bed and see how he is in the morning.
Try to keep him hydrated and if he is refusing to drink anything still tomorrow morning then I would go to the dr. You don't want him dehydrated.
Hope he feels better soon !!!!

thank you, no other symptoms other than not wanting to eat or drink. I actually just managed to get him to take a few sips of water.

Hopefully it's just a quick bug then and he starts eating and drinking more tomorrow!!

I would definitely give Motrin and not Tylenol.

Just wondering why motrin instead of tylenol? Is it because of how high the temp is?

I would do motrin- it lasts longer and is better for a fever. The dose for 2 years is 1 teaspoon- same as tylenol. You can put cool wash clothes on their forehead and under their arms. If you don't see your doctor you should call for instructions. We usually have to piggyback tylenol and motrin every 3 hours until the fever breaks- our doctor recommends this overnight and then in the morning wait and see the temp before giving anything.

When DD has high fevers I switch off Motrin and Tylenol every 3 hours (per my ped). Usually brings down temp quickly

I would head to PM Peds for that kind of fever. Our pediatrician adjusts dosages of motrin and tylenol based on weight, not age, so I personally wouldn't take a chance on over medicating.
