Dry blood in the ear - What could this be?? Please come in ped office closed
My son is 3 years old and I saw dry blood in his ear. He was in the pool a couple of times this week. He doesn't seem to be feeling hurt by it. But I'm concerned now because I do remember a couple of weeks ago seeing the same thing but I though he just scratched himself. He did have a cold, bad congestion about a week and a half ago.
Could this be serious?? He doesn't have tubes put in or anything either and has never had an ear infection. I don't know what to think and I will be calling the ped first thing tomorrow.

Are you sure its blood and not wax? My DS has dark wax sometimes and it looks like blood, but it isn't

He could have had an ear infection and his ear drum burst. That is what the dried blood could be. It's not serious, it actually relives the pressure in the ear.

I'm pretty sure it's blood. Had my mom look at it too and she says it's blood old looking blood not fresh.
I checked his other ear and I took a wash cloth and wiped a little with pointer finger and I saw dark old looking blood in there too.
I hope it's healing. I read ear rupture is the start of a healing process?? I do know this week he was real wild in the pool and bath. I saw him go under to the point water went up his nose and it really bothered him. I'm not sure if that right there could have been the cause?
edit: I hope the ped will be able to tell me if it was an ear infection.

yes, if it did rupture then he will feel a lot better and his ear will start to heal.
don't put anything in his ear until you see the ped. that's what our ped told me when DD had an ear infection and I thought her ear drum burst.

He could've just scratched his ear while sleeping. Check to see if his nails are too long or sharp
