Orlando round trip flights $40pp
Not going to go anywhere but it hurts a little that flights are so cheap right now. We have never been to Disney because a flight for 6 is so $$$. It doesn’t help that two of DDs classmates just announced they went to Disney over thanksgiving. I know Florida is having a super surge right now. Anyone taking advantage of these crazy deals?

Re: Orlando round trip flights $40pp
I have flight credits I have to use.
But the thing is, the hotel we had to cancel down in the Keys back in April, is like double the price now. It pisses me off because it wasn't cheap in April, but now it's unaffordable. I guess because the hotels are struggling so they are jacking up prices?
Then I looked at prices on Southwest and they aren't great to be honest. Definitely nothing like $40 round trip.
Maybe it's because I was looking at dates that were more in demand (in the spring)
ETA- we have friends who live in Florida and they went to Universal yesterday and said it was heaven- no lines.

Re: Orlando round trip flights $40pp
We won't go for obvious reasons but I can see how it would be frustrating. I checked for the heck of it for Feb break to Orlando and the prices were $200 ish for ideal dates (i.e. Sat to Sat), ideal times, economy plus, etc. That's about a third of what's normal.
If it makes you feel any better, anyone going to Disney right now is not getting anything close to the full experience. So much is closed or very limited right now. There's no Christmas party, no Fastpass, no standard character greetings (including the meals), no park hopping until 2021, etc. I think they might have brought back some fireworks and parades but those weren't happening for a while either and if they are back they are limited for sure. Lots of restaurants are closed too and I've heard reports of people struggling to find a place to eat that meets their needs.
For people who go often these limitations might not matter but anyone doing a one and done trip might want to wait.

It sucks, but take comfort in not being an A$$hole. How dare they go to Disney and put their kids back in school. Selfish. Like all the selfish people in my office who just HAD to celebrate Thanksgiving like normal and now we have 5 positive people and still have to go in to work!

The kids might not be in school. I know a few kids in DD's school who travelled over the holiday and are home quarantining per the rules. If they were going to be that blatant about skirting the rules I doubt they'd announce it because the school would throw them out

True, you're right. I just assumed they were in school when I read DD's classmates, meaning they saw them in school. Could be remote. I shouldn't assume, but I do think people would not think a thing about announcing it.

Kids announce things they are not supposed to say all the time, especially little ones.
And I find that people brazen enough to break the rules are indeed sometimes brazen enough to flaunt it. Arrogance.
Not to mention that I don't know if a school would actually follow through with kicking a student out based on classroom chatter. I can't envision that - "I heard little Johnny say he went to Florida! Let's call his parents to pick him up now!" - although I have no idea what the protocol is for discovering things like that.
To be clear - I don't judge people who travel as long as they follow the quarantine/testing rules. To each their own.

DD is having 2 friends over for her birthday. They're going to have a scavenger hunt outside and roast marshmallows to make s'mores.
She has told approximately 75 people about her "birthday party." There's probably a warrant out for my arrest.

My DD's school is that strict. My sister works there and they've asked all the faculty to keep an ear out for anyone who might be travelling and not disclosing that info. They will ask them to leave and quarantine them until they can be picked up.

Outdoor stuff is the way to go. Sounds like fun!

Re: Orlando round trip flights $40pp
A friend traveled to Disney recently. With new rules they tested before leaving Florida, 3 day quarantine and then testing to go back to school.
Given that it was like 30 degrees in Florida this week I don't feel like I'm missing anything not going there
A Caribbean beach... I desperately want to go....

Re: Orlando round trip flights $40pp
Honestly if I was childless I'd go away right now in a heartbeat. Less crowds at a resort sounds like heaven to me. Plus the cheaper flights like you mentioned.
And I work from home now so quarantining upon return would not be a hardship for me.
But with DD- I can't have her out of school for that long when we return. She needs to be in school.

The kids announced it over google classroom. The school is closed and remote only for the two weeks after thanksgiving, but we didn’t know about the change to remote until a few days before the break. I’m sure they had the trip planned and scheduled ready to go either way.

See, if I knew DD's school would be remote for 2 weeks after a break anyway, I'd be gone in a heartbeat.

Re: Orlando round trip flights $40pp
We went to Orlando the week before thanksgiving since we really needed a change. DS is remote at school anyways and DH works from home. We didn't go to the parks. We only wanted warm weather, a bigger space and a pool. We are quarantining and DH and DS had the test done last Monday and it came back negative.

$40 is so enticing especially when you have airline credits and Disney passes/credits to use. I feel like the timing has to be just right though. I would like to take advantage of what’s being presented there (more so in 2021 when hoppers return) but I think that will drive in more crowds. Going to wait it out a little bit more.
