No, hubby and I were just talking about this. Now when Biden gets in, Im sorry but all your taxes are going to go up. My hubby is worried about his business, now that they increase Corporate taxes for his business. I cant leave yet. I have 8 more years.
We have the same concerns with my hubby’s business. It’s worth mentioning that many businesses are from middle class people that have built their business from the ground up so yes, middle class will be impacted.

Trump's 2017 tax bill called for an increase in 2021. So it's coming and it's not Biden's fault.
Plus for most homeowners, their taxes went up in 2018 anyway with the SALT cap.
I know you are a strong Trump supporter, but the reality is that he is to blame for the recent increases in federal taxes for most LIers.

Re: Do you think New York will ever be “fixed”
the SALT tax argument really gets under my skin.
Yes, all the NYS politicians are crying for the repeal of the SALT tax cap - but how come no one is addressing the issue - WHY in the world are taxes so damn high here? Instead of whining about the loss of a tax write-off, I believe our local politicians would be better served trying to lower the local taxes.
Ill get off my now.
As far as will NYS ever be fixed, no I fear it will not. However it will still be a dream for many - not so much LI or Upstate but NYC will still inspire and draw young people.

I’ve been saying this for a while. It just falls on deaf ears. That’s why I’m curious if NY will ever be “fixed”. Can any group of politicians tackle this??
I get it’s mostly school taxes. I moved into a phenomenal school district and a couple blocks over is a not so great district. I’d be annoyed if we merged simply because I paid about $75k more for my house based solely on school district. So I don’t think merging will work as it would cause havoc on the real estate market, people would be under water on their mortgages, etc. there just has to be a way to fix it.
ETA....I know Andy is talking about legalizing sports betting. Does that $$ go to schools like lotto/casino money?

Probably to the deficit and debt he has put this state in.

Re: Do you think New York will ever be “fixed”
All I know is that I could never live in a red state. Even Long Island is too red for me. So my other choice really is California which also has high taxes. I need culture in my life. I love the energy of NY.
I love NY and I think the city will see a rebound post covid. I guess time will tell. It will be different and will settle in to a new normal.
NY and especially NYC is not for everyone and never will be. So no, I don’t think it will be fixed because no where is perfect.

I am with you. I really wanted to move up to New England, that is still my goal. There is so much history and Boston is an AWESOME city. I would be like a fish out of water in a true red state, no thanks.

I only said that in response to Diane's reference to Biden coming in. She made it federal, not me. Regardless, both things can be true at the same time.
I also wonder - and this isn't a dig, I genuinely wonder - if the people who complain loudly about local taxes are involved in local government either by reaching out to representatives (at minimum), researching exactly what the problem is, and trying to get people elected who will solve the problem.
Because for all the complaining I hear we get an awful lot of corrupt incumbents reelected repeatedly.

Yes I can honestly say I repeatedly pester my local town representatives to be more transparent with the budget. DH and I also vote in every single election (from fire commissioner to school to library board and up). I am constantly emailing or writing our state and federal representatives as well.
I am also a firm believer in term limits and rarely vote in incumbents. I don’t believe anyone should be a “career politician”. To me if you’ve spent 45 years in elected positions you owe too many people and have sold out more than the general public will ever know.

Do you think New York will ever be “fixed”
Honestly I am more concerned about NYC than LI. There has been a mass exodus due to covid. I'm afraid it's going to go back to the 70s when the city was in a financial mess and they laid off all the police and sanitation workers. It was a nasty time in NYC and this could have a domino effect on the economy across the nation
