Worth the drive

We are close with another family and go away together a lot. Both families have been super careful with Covid.
They want to go away to Florida together and rent a house over Spring break.
Only things we are finding is in Kissimmee that has a pool and nice size house for all of us.
My issue is the long drive and besides the pool what else is there if we are being carful and not going to Disney. They just want to get away to somewhere warm, but won't be by a beach and just sit at the pool each day.

Anything else by the water is too far or a fortune. The best houses we find on VRBO is Orlando area. We've stayed at a house near there before, but we went to Disney.
I really don't want to drive 15 hours there and then 15 hours home.

Re: Worth the drive

To me that's too long a drive to just use a pool. If you were going somewhere with a beach as well, maybe.
Doesn't sound like there's enough to do there to be honest. If you were flying, I'd feel differently maybe since it's a short flight

I think Florida has lots of mini golf places. And, maybe you can do some of the smaller parks -- maybe Seaworld? Is there a Legoland there?

But, I agree that if you're not going to Disney or Universal, it may not be worth the drive, just to use a pool.

Every time we're planning a vacation, my husband says we could go to Newark -- as long as the hotel has a pool, our kid is happy!

What about west coast. There are great places north of Tampa that aren’t as populated and the gulf has the best beaches. My parents are up in Hernando county and lots to do.

We went on November and beginning of February to Orlando, same, a house in Kissimmee, but we flew there. It'd be too long for a drive for us. I know the idea of flying can be scary, but taking precautions it is not too bad. We didn't do anything. It was only our family and we did the pool most of the day. They house also had a game room, so that was the plan late afternoon, and we went out for dinner every day. We just wanted to relax and it was perfect.

Worth the drive

I think it is worth it, but I need a change of scenery so badly! I am done with the cold and snow.

I am a teacher and am literally trapped here. Meanwhile, my DH and I will be fully vaccinated by mid March.

Personally I would never drive 15 hours to sit in a house everyday just because the weather was warmer and there was a pool.

Swim with the manatees in Crystal River. Best experience EVER!!!
Why not get a house closer to the beach? West coast beaches are definitely less crowded.

There's not much left on VRBO. Been trying, but everyone else has the same idea.

Re: Worth the drive

I might let go of the idea of a house.

To get warm enough weather to be guaranteed use of a pool you will need to drive to Florida.

What about something like Orange Lake where there is at least stuff to do - lazy river, activities, etc. - although some might not be happening right now I suppose.

I like Orange Lake, but I would not go there if you are trying to avoid crowds during break. It will most likely be mobbed.

So we did find a place by the beach. Still a 16 hour drive and the house has a heated pool and hot tub.

You couldn't pay me to drive 16 hours to be honest. I would fly though.
