There was a small outbreak at my DH' job, unfortunately he got it and gave it to me and our DD. We're fine now thankfully but there is really no way to know who had it first and how it got passed around. My DH is mostly in his own office all day and wears a mask when he interacts with others but even being as safe as possible, there is always a risk of contracting it. Nothing is 100% fail safe.
Having COVID was a pretty $hitty experience that I wouldn't want to repeat, fingers crossed we all test positive for antibodies which will hold us over until we get the vaccine.
I find it interesting that people who wear a mask and social distance still get it while others who are around people for months with no masks and no social distance have been fine.
Guess it goes to show you the make and social distance don’t always work so many have stopped their lives for a year and still got sick.
Ya know it’s true and very frustrating. We stopped our lives for a year and still got it. It took almost a full year to get it but we got it and I know people who’s lives never changed and have been fine (which I’m glad - I don’t want anyone to get sick)

As an aside, did your taste and smell come back 100% yet? This side effect of COVID is so frustrating, I'm hoping it gets better.
It’s at about 80% and drops down to less mid meals. I also smell cigarette smoke about 90% of my day. It’s awful.
Literally sitting here as I type it smells like someone lit up right next to me and the smoke is literally going directly up my nostrils burning them and stinks of cigarettes. I’ve read some studies saying it’s “smell / sensory memory” and it could make sense because my mom was a heavy smoker most of my life.

I haven't gotten it but I think the masks work because I have not even gotten sick since the shutdown and would get bronchitis like twice annually

Agreed. We haven't gotten it either. Those whom I know who have gotten it and followed the guidelines were mostly exposed it because of people not following the guidelines--not wearing masks properly, distancing, etc. IMO, various online and other misinformation campaigns created disregard that caused a lot of the harm.

Those that got Covid
To answer OP, hard to say since the first person in our home works in a school and works out (masked). We then had household spread based on timing, all mild including a 63 year old, thankfully. The loss of taste and smell was so incredibly strange, never had that before. We are better now but sometimes still feel the tiredness, winded, etc. it’s strange, very strange

You're not invincible if you have the vaccine. It just means that you won't be hospitalized or die. You can still get it, get really sick, or pass it to someone else.

Yep you probably would have. NY and NJ's numbers have always been atrocious but they sit on their high throne with the delusion of how safe it is here.

Oh that sucks that you have the phantom smell thing although I did read that is a good sign as it means your smell receptors are making connections again. I don't have that but while my taste and smell did come back it's not at all the same. I can taste strongly flavored things like a hot dog with kraut but milder flavored foods are so bland and almost tasteless. I am hoping that over time this get better. I also read that in some people they found that after getting the vaccine many (or all) of their post-COVID symptoms went away. 
Hope you're back to 100% soon!

Were masks ever really suppose to stop the spread though? I thought mask wearing and social distancing were put into place to SLOW the spread - not that is was ever going to stop it.
I think that is the disconnect.
I do find if very interesting that some with extended exposure never get it and some with very short term, under 5 minutes, get it.

We were all contacted that a kid on the bus had it so all the kids were tested and were negative.
Her other daughter said she was exposed in class and 5 days later she tested positive. No symptoms or anything.
Wow I am shocked as these kids wear masks all day and many are behind shields. Most kids are not spreading at school but outside activities.
I know the family well and they are carful. They did just start allowing snacks in the class so they do take off their mask to eat. Who knows really, but she is asymptomatic. Only tested the kids bc they were supposed to get together with family for palm sunday and 2 daughters were exposed. One on the middle school bus and one 2nd grader in class. The older daughter's test came back negative.
My boys were also exposed on the bus. two different buses bc one is in middle and one in elementary. Both tested negative, but still has to quarentine

Meanwhile my friend's daughter, who by the way eats a perfect, healthy, organic diet, was sick every other week- no joke.

To add to that, it's also hard to understand why for most people COVID won't be life threatening yet for many others it lands them in the hospital or even worse, they die. For some people with underlying conditions, COVID is deadly yet for others with underlying conditions, it's not.
The unpredictability of COVID and how your own body will respond to the virus is the thing that always scared me and REALLY freaked me out when I got sick with COVID. Every day was a crap shoot and I didn't rest easy until I hit the two week mark. Meanwhile, my DD got it from us (she's 12.5 yrs old) and for her COVID was like having a cold and she was better in under 3 days. Such a weird virus.

Yes! They have said the amount of viral load that you are exposed to has an effect on whether or not you contract COVID and how severe of a case you will have if you do get sick.

People also leave out all the time smokers. Smokers of cigarettes, juling, etc. Any illness can and will affect them more, especially one that entails not being able to breathe and that turns into pneumonia.

Those that got Covid
We are pretty sure we got it from DHs job (dh got it from work and then gave it to me because he was contagious before he was showing symptoms) we had been so careful otherwise. Having most of our groceries delivered and the few times I did go to stores I wore a mask and gloves and changed my clothes as soon as I got home as well as disinfected everything I bought. And dh tried to be careful at work, but he caught it right before masks became mandatory so he was basically a sitting duck at work.

My daughter tested positive beginning of march. Only symptom was a stuffy nose. We don’t go out to eat- I work at home. She either got it at school or gymnastics. Those are the only places she goes. My DH works in a school and is vaccinated so he could have brought it home. No one in the house showed symptoms at all so we are very thankful.
No one else in her class or on the bus tested positive; I’m assuming she got it at the gym (where they get more mask breaks).
Dr at City MD said 50% of people testing positive have either very mild symptoms or none at all. I think more people have had it then we know or think. My daughter never coughed, had a fever, lost any senses.

I still and will always think the tests that test for coronavirus have some of the elements tested for coronavirus as a whole not just the breakdown of covid. That is why so many are positive and have very little symptoms or ones that are similar to a regular cold.
No one else at the gym was traced to being positive also?
