We cant use any reusable bags, boxes, or lunch containers. Everything must be in a brown or plastic bag to be thrown out. I guess I will wrap stuff in plastic wrap and then place it in a larger large ziploc or paper bag. No reusable drink containers either.

We can use our normal stuff so nothing different. Also they are encouraging a reusable water bottle so kids are not using water fountains

Interesting.. We havent been told this yet.
I would just put items in reynolds wrap and then into a brown bag as to not use so much plastic.
The reusable drink containers is going to be the hardest. Sending in bottles of poland spring each day is ridiculous.

We are allowed lunch boxes and everything normal. Kids will eat at their desks and their lunchbox and thermos will stay in their backpack all day.

I don't get the reasoning for your school's restrictions. Covid germs are jumping off of lunch boxes onto other kids lunchboxes?

I know right? I guess the environment no longer matters. Remember when plastic straws and plastic bags at Target were the enemies just a few short months ago?? They got knocked out by the evil Covid infested thermoses and reusable water bottles!

We were told its because the lunchboxes don't get washed daily. But neither do backpacks and they can bring those lol. I dont want to use a ton of plastic but I am afraid of the paper bags getting soggy and ripping. This is all so ridiculous

Yes and you can easily wipe down a lunchbox with a clorox wipe or spray with Lysol (if you can ever find lysol these days) so it really does make no sense if you think about it.
I used to always wipe down DD's lunch box with a Clorox wipe because it always skeeved me out and smelled bad from her leaving half her lunch in it all day and bringing it home rather than throwing it out!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I always cleaned DD's lunchbox.

Her backpack, on the other hand, almost never got washed unless it was looking particularly gross.

Our district is half days. They're not allowed to bring any food at all. A bunch of moms are up in arms about their kids not getting a snack for 2 hours. Well, b!tch you should have thought about that when you voted for the reopening plan from hell. And how often does a child need to eat anyway? They can't go 2 hours without a snack? DD would go 2 days without eating and it would be her dream come true.

Nothing has changed in my district as far as packing lunches and snacks go. They can also bring in their own water bottles.

Same. We are actually told not to bring in disposable water bottles (same as every year).

We can even order lunch that will be delivered to the classroom.

Oh I'd love that. My DD is annoyed at the prospect of not being able to buy lunch a few days a week. A packed sandwich gets awfully boring.

My kids are allowed to bring in lunchboxes and Tupperware containers. They are also still offering hot lunch this year, but it will be catered by a local deli, and individually wrapped. Things like chicken tenders with rice, mac & cheese with carrots, turkey & cheese on a roll, ziti with sauce & turkey meatball, and french toast sticks with hash browns. All meals will also include a fresh fruit cup & either pretzels or goldfish. I will probably just have them do hot lunch most days since my kids like those things. Makes life easier!

I will be packing lunch as usual- we have no new regulations- our district focuses a lot on recycling and reducing waste so I cannot see them pushing disposable items for lunches.

Nothing has changed for packing other than the entire middle school is nut free. And there is no hot lunch. Sandwiches or salads only.

Looks like our first 2 weeks are sandwiches and salads only as well. But later in the month the regular hot lunch menu starts. I was surprised. But not unhappy. Packing lunch every day sucks. Chat Icon

Ours isn't changing and I'm annoyed. At least I only have to pack every other day though!
