Vacation Plans- Vent/Question

We have plans to go to Florida this week to stay in our condo for 10 days. We have spent all summer working and have not done much at all. Its a vacation we have been looking forward to all summer but now I am afraid to go!

I am kicking myself for not taking vacation earlier in the summer when covid rates were low, but hindsight is 20/20.

I have young (unvaccinated kids) who have already had covid. My husband and I both had covid as well and are both vaccinated.

I know everyone has different comfort levels but I am just wondering, is anyone else in a similar situation, have you cancelled summer travel plans bc of the increased rates?

I hear you - I was just thinking the same thing yesterday, wishing we had vacationed earlier so Covid isn't as front of mind.

We are scheduled to leave for vacation this week and are still going.

I figure most of the things we do are outdoors and not in large crowds anyway. For the things we do indoors, we will mask if it feels unsafe.

My vaccinated neighbor just got over Covid - she thinks she got it at the Jersey shore.

I would go still. I’m planning going to FL still in September. Granted my kids aren’t coming but even if they were they’re not old enough to be vaccinated and I would still be taking them.

Are your plans mostly to stay in your condo and hand by the beach and pool? If so I think I would be even less concerned though even if I had Disney plans (covid or not I would never visit Disney in august lol but I know people do) I would still go if I was ok with whatever rules were in place.

Yes, we usually just spend time at the pool/ beach maybe a day at a splash pad or a zoo.. all outdoor stuff.
Honestly i was SO careful last year/ last summer - we did NOTHING- even took a leave of absense for 6 months from work so that I could keep my kids home and not get outside help - finally went back to work and hired a nanny who then gave us all covid two weeks after she started! All that to say, I do try to be careful still but also realize that sometimes things just happen anyway so might as well live!

Vacation Plans- Vent/Question

We just went on vacation.. We picked a spot that was largely outdoorsy so we could limit our time around people. There was a downtown area that was crowded and we wore masks there, even outdoors. Not ideal, but it wasn’t that bad even during last week’s extreme heat.

We also went to a lake house with friends but we didn’t hang out inside - only outside. We actually slept in their airstream as we were not comfortable being in the house with everyone.

I suggest everyone double mask on the plane.

I would just try to limit my time with others indoors and distance when outdoors.

I hear you!

We just went on vacation last week. We had rented a house so we were either at the beach or the pool. We went out to dinner a couple of times and I made them wear their masks. I should mention we drove. My kids really don't mind the masks so I think I would take them on a plane also.

Vacation Plans- Vent/Question

we had a trip planned to Key West for Thursday. We were contemplating cancelling because Florida rates are so high....
Unfortunately, we were exposed in NY over the last few days (ironically from someone who just got back from Florida a few days prior) and now I'm showing symptoms (getting tested in a bit). Obviously, we cancelled.
I would not take the chance.

I would go in a second. I know so many that have gone away all over and have been fine.

We would have been cruising next week so I am a little sad. Pushed it to next year so nothing this year.

Enjoy and go have fun Chat Icon

Since you are both vaccinated and all had Covid….I would go.

I’m not one who ever bunkered down due to Covid. But if we were subjected to testing upon return for work or school I’d cancel. Seems like a lot of people are coming back from vacations with Covid.

Re: Vacation Plans- Vent/Question

So we are going on vacation to Long Island from NJ. Our plans include kayaking, and fire island, as well as the pool in my brother’s backyard and my parents neighbor’s pool who invited us to spend time there. My daughter is not vaccinated yet because she is too young. We are still planning on going but will just do take out and eat at my parents house.

I just went on a weekend trip to North Myrtle Beach and I pray that I don't get Covid. Hardly anyone was wearing masks - even though shops all said masks required and it was pretty crowded everywhere we went. I only eat outdoors and it was pretty hot the whole time. I always double mask but it doesn't take much to get it.

I would still go. I have lots of family that lives in FL with tons of kids, none have gotten Covid and have returned to school.

You are not staying in a hotel with others so thats less exposure to people and i would just do lots of outdoor activities. Enjoy your vacation and take the same precautions you would do in NY.

We are going in early September to Disney (again). We went back in March and I was comfy. This time around, eh. The crowd levels are high, lots of virus down there. We definitely won't be eating indoors, and I will be taking all of my pre-pandemic precautions such as sanitizing the airplane (including belt buckles, vent nozzles, arm rests, tray tables, window shade, etc.), wiping down our hotel room daily, especially after housekeeping has touched 110 other doors, then touching ours. Diligently washing our hands and sanitizing after every ride. Wiping down our phones a lot. Taking our vitamins, and enjoying ourselves. We are all vaccinated, and have been traveling since the start of this, but the crowd level at Disney coupled with the amount of sick people down there had me questioning if we should go. But we are.

Agree. We went to FL in April and had a great time. We took the same precautions we take here and were fine. I would absolutely go back and we plan on it. TBH I'm more concerned about being stranded by an airline then getting COVID.

So true

If you are flying American Airlines, I would switch to another airline. Every single day in my travel groups dozens of people's flights are cancelled on hours notice before they are set to depart. They seem to be the most mismanaged major airline right now. I would never, ever fly them.

Same.
I am on vacation now and I don't think many people canceled their trips...every single hotel had no vacancies and everything was packed. I had to book dining reservations 3 weeks in advance too.

I don't even know how AA hasn't went under yet. They are seriously screwing so many people lately. Yet they keep booking flights they know they will not have crew for.

We just flew Jetblue to Costa Rica, and while I was prepared for serious delays, we were surprisingly on time both ways.
