WWYD Child tutoring
I have been “tutoring” a 2 year old as a side job for over a year now. I call it “tutoring” because it isn’t really full on teaching, but rather they want me to come to their home and play with their daughter in English for an hour. I do this twice a week, once early on Saturday and during the week after her kindergarten (kindergarten is from about 2-6 years old). They have paid me well and I enjoy it.
I am leaving at the end of the month, so I need to tell them. I have two back ups they can call as a replacement. I would prefer to tell them over text instead of in person. Would this be OK?
I would have told them sooner, but my contract was finalized yesterday and I was waiting for that before giving up all my side jobs. They knew I had the job, but a lot of things got delayed because of paperwork not being sent over from my medical exam for the job.
So is a text OK?

No, I feel like that should be done in person. If they already know you have a new job, they must be expecting it anyway. Plus, this way you can say goodbye to the girl too.

Re: WWYD Child tutoring
I'm usually a big fan of texting over in person speaking, lol, but in this case, I feel like you should tell them in person.
Next time you go there, I'd just mention it. This way they know exactly when you will be leaving and have time to interview/meet your recommended replacements.

Agree with everyone else. I am BIG on messaging but this is really something you should do in person.

Well I am hoping to say goodbye to the little girl because I have three more lessons with her and then they go on vacation for about 3 weeks and will be back in the beginning of September.
Yeah, I mentioned it once about the job, but didn’t say more because the paperwork was taking a long time.
I will tell them tomorrow at the end of the session. It’s always so crazy at the end of the session because they have a daughter with special needs and the dad takes her out for an hour, so I can concentrate on the little girl.

I would tell them at the START and not the end of the session. Less rush and gives them time to ask a few questions

Re: WWYD Child tutoring
Well, I told them. I did it at the end of the lesson because there was a late start because they were stuck in traffic.
They were disappointed. I feel bad because the little girl is used to me. However, I think my replacements will be better, lol. They have more experience with children than I do.
I am going to get the little girl a toy and a thank you card for the parents. Maybe I should get a toy that she and her older sister can share? I didn’t teach the sister because she has special needs and the parents were told to stick with one language.
