Re: Is it okay to have a drink???
I had a few sips - literally - on my honeymoon - we were in Thailand and DH would order these cool Thai beers that I just needed to taste - believe it or not, it was one of the few times I wouldnt puke right after, so maybe there was something to it!
But honestly, I did not feel comfortable drinking during my pregnancy - I also felt - whats 9 months? I could wait a few months for the sake of my baby's development! That is forever!

Re: Is it okay to have a drink???
I have had 4 glasses of wine or champange during these nine months. I don't feel guilty and I don't worry that it has caused any harm to my son.

My mother DRANK (as in 1-2 cocktails every night) through all 6 of her kids -- and we are all fine and healthy, full-term babies.
That isn't to say you SHOULD drink, but a drink here and there is not going to hurt the baby.
We put more crap in our bodies eating over-processed foods and just breathing our polluted air than we do by having a drink now and then.
i agree.

I have heard it is ok but I was way to paranoid to even take the chance. I could wait the 9 months.
Same here...I've heard and read that an occasional drink is OK from some sources, but then again, most will say abstain...but personally, why take the chance? Besides, think what a cheap date I'll make after 9 months without any...1 drink and I'll be gone!

Re: Is it okay to have a drink???
I will not drink at all. I am sick of people offering me alcohol. But I was the type of drinker that never stopped at 1 drink. If I decided to have 1 drink, it might not stop. So I won't go near it.

Re: Is it okay to have a drink???
I just drank part of a Guiness recently and feel fine. I come from a different culture that was under British rule so Guiness is considered ok to give to pregnant women in small quantities for anemia, etc.
I feel do what you are comfortable with as it is you who will have to take care of "your" child. (obviously not getting sloshed )

That is soooo true and very scary.......
Don't you girls find it interesting though that we are one of the few cultures that completely cut out alcohol??? I go to school where 50% of the students are international and when I told some of my international friends that Americans don't drink when they are pregnant, they were shocked..... I've had a few sips here and there, but I never felt comfortable enough to have a full glass. I do feel extremely guilty and it's totally a personal comfort level.

Re: Is it okay to have a drink???
This is what my Doctor told me about alcohol....
The truth about drinking while is that while we know that it causes Fetal Alcohol Syndrome we dont really know HOW MUCH alcohol causes the actual defects...soooo the consensus is to tell pregnant women NOT TO DRINK AT ALL...But my doctor says that if you want to have a glass of champagne on New Years FINE, or share of bottle of wine on your anniversary FINE, or a beer at the BBQ FINE.....Just keep it at special occasions...
He told me this b/c of my history of preterm labor, which could be due in part to stress...so he told me that if a glass of wine would mellow me out then to have a small glass when I get really stressed.

It depends where they come from. I am "international" and did not drink during my pregnancy neither did my family still overseas.

Re: Is it okay to have a drink???
Oh it's not a big deal to have a glass of wine or beer. I wouldn't be doing shots but a glass here and there...no biggie. JMO of course but back in the day people would drink wine before water for sanitary reasons.
