Re: Can you guys help me with this...Thinking of moving back to LI
I'm in a similar situation to you. We're in NJ and all of our family is on LI. Although I miss our family and wish we could see them more often we really love where we live and don't have a huge desire to live on LI. But you said you don't feel a strong pull to CT so that would be a huge factor for me. In your case I'd really think about moving back. Can your DH send his resume out and see what kind of opportunities there are for him in NY? I'd also consider your DH's commute. Would he have a longer commute like into the city if you moved back to LI? If he has a short commute now it might be a trade off to think about. With 2 kids having your DH home more might be really important to you. I know it's a hard decision. We've been torn on it many times and have thought about moving back, but for now we're happy where we are.

Re: Can you guys help me with this...Thinking of moving back to LI
Well I think that when I think back to my childhood I remember not having alot but it didn't bother me, and I also remenber always having tons of family around, lot of cousins and aunts & uncles & my grandparents.
So if you can I would say move back, It sounds like it would also make you happier as well.

I don't know- We live over 3000 miles away from our family but we love our quality of life here- its much easier and the weather can't be beat. The schools are really good too. I miss my family but now my parents are looking to move here too and once they are here, I will definately feel at home.
I will miss visiting NY regularly though..

I personally would move back, if you aren't loving CT. I think that it's so important to be near family - esp. when you have kids. I for one couldn't live far from them.

First off, I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa
Second, I would definately move back to be closer to family. I live on the same block as my parents and brothers, and next door to my sister. I dont' know what I would do without them around me.

My parents are gonna kill us if we decide to go back to LI. My dad has been working up here since May 06, bought a condo and my parents house in Lindy has been on the market for months. Their plan is to move up here too. But I am not sure if that would be enough for me. I miss my parents terribly it will def help when they totally move up here, but we also miss DH's family, the rest of my family and our friends we have been friends with forever.
This is soo hard, I am trying to separate the emotions from reality, but i keep telling myself family is priceless.
Do i listen to my head or my heart or both?
First of all, I am so sorry about the loss of your Grandfather.
Secondly, I wouldn't move - CT is so close, you have the best of both worlds! It's not as if you live across the country, or even somewhere that you would need to buy airfare to visit. CT is a short drive away...and there's even the Bridgeport/Port Jeff ferry, if you wanted to avoid NYC traffic on occasion.
We moved to LI to be close to family and 5 years later, I wish we hadn't. It is not that I don't love my family - it's just that we don't really see them as often as I had anticipated, and I wonder if it was financially worth it. And the death of m grandfather really changed the family dynamic, too. Everyone does their own thing now, and there's no strong reason to get together.
In the very least, I would give yourself more time to decide if this is what you and your DH think is the best decision for your family. Good luck.

Re: Can you guys help me with this...Thinking of moving back to LI
We are in a similar situation- we're in Putnam County at the moment but we are going to move back to LI soon, hopefully. I miss my family and friends a lot, and my commute is the pits. I hate that DD does not get to see much of either set of GPs. If we move, we also will not have to put DD in day care, which has become important to me.
