Re: am i a bad family member(sorry so long)
If your family member was being mistreated then I'd say you did the right thing. try not to feel guilty, you were only telling the truth...is it possible you can take guardianship temporarily?? its obvious she's emotionally unstable right now...they have to keep his best interests priority.
ets: i assumed it was your nephew...changed it to family member

I have to be honest, honey, you did the absolute correct thing, in my opinion. My father had to call cps on a family member of mine a few years back, and it was a real eye opener for that person. It's hard to do, but it's the RIGHT thing. Hang in there.

Re: am i a bad family member(sorry so long)
Of course you did the right thing. You had to take her to the hospital, and leave it to the professionals to decide to call cps (and they made the right call).
You should also know that children are only removed from families as a last resort, they will give her help and support that she needs to try ang get it together so she can keep her child.

You absolutely did the right thing. It sounds like this family member has some very deep emotional problems. Although it isn't easy to do, you are helping her and her child get the help that they need.
Just so you know, if CPS decides to take the child, they generally first look for family members to take the child - kinship foster families - before placing a child with a nonkinship family. So there may be a possibility the child will be able to stay within your family.

Re: am i a bad family member(sorry so long)
You did nothing wrong. Think of the alternatives if she had decided to do something to him...cleary the house is dysfunctional and the child is acting out due to his surroundings. Let the authorities do what is necessary to help this family. I would think there was something wrong if you didn't tell them the truth.
I called CPS less than a year ago on a family member and situation that was totally out of control. It didn't win me any popularity contests but at least I felt like I was acting in the best interests of my niece. The little one's can speak for themselves and it's great that this little guy has someone to be his voice.

You did the right thing. It wasn't your decision to call CPS, it was the professional's decision. She is emotionally unstable right now and they will do what is best for the child until she is once again able to. It doesn't mean that it's forever.

Re: am i a bad family member(sorry so long)
you did the right thing what would happen if her son came home and found her (god forbid) dead. That is something really traumatic for a child. It wasn't your choice to call cps on her it was the hospitals choice and they wouldn't have called if they didn't think that things were bad but the doctors seen it for themselves. You did not hing wrong. Maybe try to see if you or a family member can take in the child

Re: am i a bad family member(sorry so long)(updated sorry so long again!)
i hope both her and her son get some help, they both ound like they need it - you didn't do anythign wrong and are not a bad family member - sometimes it takes a great family memebr to do the right thing to help others, even if they don't appreciate it at the time.
lots of hugs to you all!
