Re: Autism Screening??
My ped did it at his 6 month appointment. I did not ask for it specifically, and she told me it is part of her practice's regular procedure.
ETA: Although I did not ask for it, I was more than glad to have him checked. I had no idea a screening was available at 6 mos.

Re: Autism Screening??
Every appt. DS has had (he is 8 1/2 months now) my dr's pays close attention to him and ask me various questions...is he making eye contact? does he smile when he sees you? is he babbling? etc.
ETA: Although I did not ask for it, I was more than glad to have him checked. I had no idea a screening was available at 6 mos.
I think they want all children evaluated at least twice now by the time their 2 (or maybe its by 15 months ) Some peds. do it more often.

Re: Autism Screening??
I thought I read recently that they are recommending pediatricians do a screening at the 9 and 12 month marks. Or something like that!
i do know that the awareness level has certainly gone up!

Re: Autism Screening??
Every ped. should be evaulating every child at every appointment to make sure they are meeting their milestones. If that's done, a delay would be noted and appropriate action could be taken (EI, etc.). It doesn't necessarily have to be an "Autsim" evaluation for the doctor to notice something isn't right with your DC.

Their finding this is no longer the case. With the studies and research they have done, they believe you can see signs as early as 6 months (for exampls, making eye contact and holding eye contact).

Re: Autism Screening??
just went to our 15 month well visit and my PED said that they are required to ask you questions regarding any signs of autism. Now she has me crazy, she also asked if Christopher is obsessed with the vacuum cleaner, and I was like YEAH!!!! Maybe cause that was the only thing that made him go to sleep when he was colicky. I have to take him to a neurologist to have him checked ou Oh boy this just never ends for him, just when I thoiught he was making such progress.

Don't worry yourself yet. I think ped's are being very over precautious right now.
