Nope, I never did that. I had so many people come over and cook for me that I didn't need to! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone freezing meals b/f the baby arrives?

I did this. I made meatballs, ziti, lasagne. I also went to Trader Joe's and got a whole bunch of their frozen stuff- and that helped out alot!

Re: Anyone freezing meals b/f the baby arrives?

MIL did this for DH, knowing I would be in the hospital for at least 5 days. He had Beef Stew, Lasagne, Chicken Francese, steak and potates, sausage and peppers, and Ziti.

I never thought to do that, but the DH likes to cook, and he doesn't like old food. So we probably won't do this

Re: Anyone freezing meals b/f the baby arrives?

I am planning on doing this.

So far on my menu is eggplant parm, lasagna, baked ziti, sausage and peppers, meatballs, chicken cutlets, and chili.

Probably not. Baby is born end of may and we are big grill people....so hubby can throw some meat on the grill. I will probably stock up on meats though.

Split Pea soup is a good one to freeze. I am also doing this. I wish I would have when I had my son. It would have made things so much easier.

Re: Anyone freezing meals b/f the baby arrives?

Making a big pot of sauce to freeze in smaller portions may not be a bad idea. Then if you are in a pinch, you just just boil some pasta or ravioli.

Re: Anyone freezing meals b/f the baby arrives?

any stew will freeze well....

our freezer is small Chat Icon .... but MOM'S isn't Chat Icon I think I'll cook a lot, freeze it down and shift some to her freezer....

whatever you do, try to keep some variety in your selection...

don't make lasagne, ziti, sauce for ravioli, AND eggplant parm..... you'll never eat italian again!

Re: Anyone freezing meals b/f the baby arrives?

I am so going to do this! DH can't cook to save his life and I know that we would all starve (or have McD's every night...) GROSS!

I would also make stiuff that can be thrown in the crockpot so you can eat out of it for a couple meals. I know there are stews, pastas and chicken recipes that do really well in the crock pot Chat Icon

Re: Anyone freezing meals b/f the baby arrives?

I plan on doing this. I have a cookbook of receipes that are freezable so I will choose some out of there.

It really helps me to have them in the beginning.

I am due at the end of May too. This is such a great idea.

I think I will just buy different meats and then put them in the freezer already marinated. That way we can just defrost and grill. DH should be able to handle simple side dishes by just using the microwave or our rice cooker.

Re: Anyone freezing meals b/f the baby arrives?

I so wish I had the energy to do this! With just a few days left, I can barely get myself to make one dinner per night much less cooking in advance!
