Re: The issues
The economy, if I can only pick one. They are all important, but that probably most so. Four years ago, I probably would have chosen Natl. Security or Foreign Policy--still high on the list, but they have fallen.

Re: The issues
Education is my #1 issue since I'm a teacher. Something has got to be done to fix the mess that is NCLB. Plus, without a good education system, our country is going nowhere.

Re: The issues
I know I am probably in the minority with this, but the most important issue to me is the environment. I think the economy has its cycles ... but the environment - something has to be done about what we are doing to our planet, we are leaving a sh!thole for our future generations.

I agree that this is very important and we need to start moving in the direction of helping to ensure we take care of where we live (meaning, our planet). The only thing that upsets me with this is that I feel like no matter how hard we try, as a country, there are other countries in the world who don't care at all. I mean, not even a little! They don't try to help w/ pollution -- a place like China should realize and start being more responsible so that all of our efforts don't go to waste. How do you feel about that? I feel worried that our hardwork may only take us so far unless places like China start to care more about our earth.

Haven't you heard? China does it's part by killing babies in the street to keep their population in check.
Don't get me started on China.
i will not be traveling there, that's for sure.
my in-laws did travel there recently and told me they were absolutely shocked and appalled at the condition of some areas in terms of pollution.
it makes me so sad to think here i am cursing myself for leaving my cloth grocery bags at home one time and they can, on a whole, be so careless. how far can we get w/ the environment if they just keep doing everything they can to negate it?

I know I'll get flamed for this, but I don't understand the constant emphasis on abortion. I feel like things like that are personal. There are so many other issues that impact more of the population. Look at how many people are losing their homes, and jobs. Our education system really needs to improve. We have issues in our relations with other countries, and some of these countries are dangerous.

I agree that it has to be a worldwide effort. As a world leader, the U.S. should be setting an example, and as of right now it is setting a terrible example. In terms of environmental preservation and alternative energy (because I believe the energy issue goes hand-in-hand with the environment), the U.S. is way behind many other countires. The current administration has shown no regard for the environment and in my opinion, has added to the bad taste in the mouths of other countries about their opinion of the U.S. Dropping out of Kyoto is just one example. My fear is with the McCain/Palin ticket, there will be little improvement on this. I fear there will be a lot of digging in natural preserves and in the oceans for oil which is a temporary fix, at best - and will not prove to be a "solution" of any kind for many years - years that could be spent on researching and developing alternative sources.

Most important is a toss up between economy & foreign policy, but I see those as intricately connected. Me too!!!!

I voted other.
Tax policy, spending, and federalism are generally at the top of my list.
ITA!
I really dont think the president has as much control over the "Economy" as people think.
I am more concerned about how the govt spends OUR money.
and I am a big proponent of states rights. IMO, abortion is a states rights issue, not a federal, as is gay marriage.

i am not flaming you at all, but i think many people, including myself, emphasized the abortion issue, because for many of us, we believe that abortion causes profound societal problems (promotes a culture of death, destruction of the family structure, women's heath issues, etc. etc.) I don't want to get into another debate on the topic, but in addition to the fact that people just disagree with the act of abortion, we also fear for the societal effects of it as well.

The economy! We both work for government agencies and we are suffering the financial cut backs due to the economy. No raises, no upgrades.

Healthcare...Thank God we have savings to help with our out of pockets for my asthmatic/seizure taking baby.
I don't know how some people do without savings This year has really been an eye opener for us.
Second is keeping the military safe.

I honestly can't pick one. Several combined are what matter - I'm not a one issue voter.
