Re: This is getting annoying...(a vent)

I would totally set the boundaries with her (ie, please wash hands and prefer that the 9 yr old not walk around with the baby). No need to be rude about it (not that I think you would). You are not making an unreasonable request.

As for seeing Jared, just tell thank her wanting to see him but he's still recovering and you just wanted to give him a couple of days before having visitors.

I feel the same way - i've had a 6 year old pick up one of the boys and walk around like it was nothing. Her Mother didn't even say a word. I guess we are just different than some others!

Re: This is getting annoying...(a vent)

wow, that is just insane... i know you want to be nice about it but i think in this case you're going to have to speak up. i don't even let my DH's 10-year-old cousin hold DS unless she is sitting down. she may be strong enough but she doesn't have the foresight to know when something is acceptable to do (like walk around in sneakers when the floor is wet).

as far as visiting Jared, tell her you appreciate the thought but he is cranky and resting and you'll let her know when he is up for visitors.

hope he is feeling better Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's just crazy, I don't understand where people come off doing something like that, I would have freaked out too if I turned around and saw that. People really have no respect for other peoples homes or babies! You are right he is not a doll. Sorry she has no common sense!

I would be really mad too. 9 years old is too young to be walking around with a baby. She should have been sitting down at all times. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: This is getting annoying...(a vent)

I'm with you, there no way the 9 year old should have just picked up your son. I won't let any of my cousins hold the baby unless they are sitting. The mother was wrong to give the baby to the 9 year old as well without asking you. I am sure you would have been ok with it if you were asked and then told the girl to go wash her hands first.

People definitely don't respect other people's things so frustrating.Chat Icon

Re: This is getting annoying...(a vent)

Obviously her mother set the scene when she handed your son to her daughter. I don't blame the 9 year old for thinking it is just fine to take the baby all over the house. I think I would have just gone over the 9 year old and very nicely said "I know you enjoy holding the baby but in our home children must sit to hold the baby. it is for his safety". I am sure that would have been the end of it.

Invite me over for a play date the same day she is there!!Chat Icon

The next time she comes over with her kid, instead of saying something to the mom, talk to the child and the mom will get the hint, like if she's holding Nikolas and starts to walk with him around the house, say no you can't walk around the house with him, he's a baby and if you trip while holding him, he could get hurt....stuff like that, hopefully the mom will get it!Chat Icon Chat Icon

The 9 year old doesn't know any better b/c the mother isn't showing or teaching her better.
KWIM?

I have a 9 year old and I would only alow her to hold Nikolas (WITH YOUR PERSMISSION FIRST) sitting down. My thoughts are exaclty your DH's thoughts. What if my kid tripped? Then what? I'd feel horrible.
