1 year olds and milk
DS is been officially on cow's milk for the last 3 weeks. How many bottles or ounces of milk would you say your DC drinks per day? Our doc said he doesn't want him to get more than 20 oz a day of cow's milk. He had been drinking about 24 oz a day of formula. DH is worried that he's not getting enough calcium, but he's drinking between 14-18 oz a day plus cheese and other calcium foods. Want to put DH's worries to rest so any thoughts ladies?

That sounds fine to me, especially with him getting cheese, yogurt or other ways to get more calcium.
Ds probably drinks too much right now. He's 13+ months and probably drinks about 20-24 ounces a day. He flip flops a lot though. Some days it could be 14 ounces and some days it's 30.

Re: 1 year olds and milk
Does anyone know what the reasoning is for them not to drink too much milk? Just curious...

Re: 1 year olds and milk
My DS usually has around 24 oz. a day and has since he turned a year (he's 16 months). Doc said it was perfect.

Re: 1 year olds and milk
Our ped wanted DS to have about 16 oz of whole milk a day. He gets 3 sippy cups of about 5-6 oz of milk and any other time he is thirsty, he gets water. He loves eating yogurt, so I usually give him a YoBaby as a snack once a day.

I *think* it is so that they eat, milk can fill their bellies up and then they don't eat food.
Christopher was off bottles by 12 months, but he usually drinks 2 cups a day (approx 9oz cups) which ends up being around 18oz a day.

It's to make sure that they eat a variety of other foods (outside of milk). For example, DH had to treat a 2 year old who was severely anemic because she wasn't getting enough iron from eating veggies and meats. Her parents were just letting her drink as much whole milk as she wanted and skimp on the solids (which wasn't giving her the vitamins she needed).
