Re: Milk question for moms of 2+ year olds...
I was raised on whole milk...the only time we ever had anything else was when my grandma visited and we would also buy skim for her and when my sister seemed to have a weight problem, my mom started buying her skim. By then, I knew I was allergic to cow's milk and didn't drink milk.
For DD, I have always only given her whole milk. Even though I don't drink it, milk just isn't milk to me when it's watery and thin. I was never told to switch either. (I didn't ask about it either)
They say you should to lower their fat intake...but I don't think there's any real harm unless your child is already showing signs of a weight problem.

My doc recommends switching to 2 or 1% at age two, but since Jack is so skinny he told me to keep him on whole mik and we will revisist at age 3.

Re: Milk question for moms of 2+ year olds...
I switched my DS to 1% milk at 2 years old because he was a big boy, ate very well and got plenty of calories from other sources, so my pedi said it was fine to switch him.

My ped said I could switch but I made a mommy executive decision because my son is 15 % for weight . He is still on whole milk.

My ped recommened switching to 1-2% at her 2 year visit. I choose to keep her on whole milk a little longer becuase she doesnt drink much milk and is a picky eater.

Re: Milk question for moms of 2+ year olds...
My DS is also thin, so when the pediatrician advised us to change to 1% at his two year appt, I asked if we should stick with whole due to his weight. The ped said he's been thin since he was born and it is just his natural body type. He does not believe we should try to "fatten him up" as the fats in whole milk are not needed and not healthy. He gets all he needs from the 1% and what he eats. So far, we are doing the 1% and DS is still gaining.
