1000 day sailing trip vs child born
Apparently, this guy and his girlfriend set sail for a 1,000 day journey. He said he thought that's how long it would take to go to Mars or something. Anyway, while they were sailing, she got pregnant. Well, he kept sailing for almost 2 years after the kid was born.
Um, where are your priorities? Am I the only one who finds this odd - that he kept sailing and didn't meet his son???
1,000 day sailing Daily News story
From Daily News Article: When Stowe stepped ashore, he kissed his 26-year-old girlfriend Soanya Ahmad on the cheek and first met Darshen, the nearly 2-year-old son that they conceived at sea.

I think it's peculiar but hey they seem OK with it. God knows in the first few months after DS' birth I would've paid someone to take DH on a boat for a year or two

I think it's strange, but I also have a hard time when I think about people who voluntarily go into the military who are away from their families.
It's not a lifestyle I would personally lead, but to each their own.

For whatever reason, this seemed to be a goal he was striving to accomplish.
I assume his girlfriend must have been okay with it, since she was there waiting for him when he returned.
While I may not fully understand it, I don't think his priorities were out of whack or anything. Clearly this was a big deal for him and he wanted to keep going on, no matter what.
As long as his family was okay with it, I don't see a big deal.

Re: 1000 day sailing trip vs child born
I read this article this morning in the paper!! i thought the same thing!!
Actually at first I was confused and had to reread it (it was in the am or metro so a small article)... but it said he came home and met his son for the first time and then it went into the story of how he went sailing with his girlfriend... at first I thought he was cheating on his wife... so i started the story over! haha!
Anyway... when i did actually read through the article.. i though.. WHY WHY WHY would you CHOOSE to stay on the boat instead of being with your NEW SON??? PRIORITIES YA IDIOT???!!?!?!?!?!!!
Some people are just bad parents!! I say this because you can't be a good parent for your kid if you willingly ran off and never even met your kid for the first 2 years of his life.

too funny!!
why is it that a 16 year old and then a new father are the ones to choose to do this trip?
how about someone who's life is in order the way it needs to be for a trip like this??

it sure does seem that way. and all that really matters is what his gf thought of it because she was the one home raising the kid for the 2 years. if she's fine with it then....
but still... not my idea and if it were me DH would not be on a boat!!

I think it's strange, but at the end of the day, if she insisted he keep sailing, than sail on.
