105.2 fever, can I have some prayers please? ~ UPDATE #2 in first post
My daughter Maya (20 months) has been really sick lately. About a week and a half ago she spiked a really high fever. We took her to the doctor and unfortunately had to see a different one because ours was off that day. She thought that Maya could have pneumonia (silent pneumonia) but didn't want to send her for the chest xray, just wanted to treat her. Okay, fine, we gave her the meds for a week/10 days...she still had a slight temp while on the meds. She finished the medicine on Saturday, and by Sunday (last night) she was back up to 105.2. I was on the phone in the middle of the night with the doctor and a nurse at the children's hospital, I really thought we were going to have to take her in. But luckily her temp responded to the Motrin. I'm waiting for a callback from my ped right now because we are going to have some tests run to rule out a few issues. She's been having fevers every week for months. My stomach is in knots, I'm so worried about her.
update #1: We are back. Thank you all SO much for your prayers.
Doc did a strep test (don't know results yet), ears look great, chest is a little congested.
Maya had to have 4 tubes of blood taken. I am forever traumatized. It was HORRIBLE. They (the lab) couldn't get a vein at all...so you can imagine the screaming and crying that took place while they stuck her and moved the needle around. POOR baby. I tried so hard not to cry. They ended up having to prick a few fingers and squeeze the blood into the tubes. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
Chest xray, also awful, they strapped her into this plastic thing with her arms in the air. It was like a cocoon but worse. But thankfully the xray is clear, so it's not pneumonia.
We are waiting for the doctor to call back re: the bloodwork. He tested for Lyme's as well as doing a blood count and some other odd thing. We should find out some answers later on, the Lyme's test will take longer. Keep praying! Her fever spiked again while we were there (three hours!!). I am spoiling her today, poor thing.
UPDATE #2 4/4/07
I'm not sure if you saw the post or not, but my sister Laura08 posted on NFR Monday night that we had to rush Maya to the hospital. Her temp was 106.2.
I have never been so scared in my life.
Basically, we got to the ER (Connecticut Children's Medical Center) and we WAITED FOR OVER SEVEN HOURS WITHOUT BEING SEEN. They checked her vitals, gave her Tylenol (temp was down to 103 b/c I gave her Motrin) and sent us into the waiting room. By 3:00 in the morning, we still had not been seen, my kids were hysterical from exhaustion...Maya's temp was down....so we left.
I am BEYOND livid about our ordeal, but trying not to focus on it right now. Trust me, heads will be rolling as soon as Maya is better. My pediatrician is horrified by the treatment we received. I guess there were some very sick kids there that night, but MY kid was really sick too.
Basically, only some of Maya's bloodwork came back so far...and it's pretty good. Nothing major going on, thank God. We are still waiting for the Lyme's test to come back.
We have to attempt to get a urine sample from her today. I'll drop it off at the lab in the morning.
Yesterday, the highest her temp went was 100.5 or so. Once we got it down from 106.2 Monday night it never really came back. It was so high that she was having trouble breathing.
Listen to this miracle...
Yesterday afternoon we took Maya to DH's office to have an acupuncture test and have acupuncture and get a (chiro) adjustment. (they use light, not needles in little ones). When we first got there, Maya looked pale, had purple circles around her eyes and her temp was 100.5. She was adjusted, had the acupuncture...and within MINUTES, her temp was down to 98.8 and her face had color...her eyes looked MUCH better too. They also did this positive energy thing with their hands on her. If I was a skeptic, I am no longer one.
I also spoke with my pediatrician at length. If the fever goes away, he is going to assume it was a virus (which is what they were telling us in the hospital too). If not, we will pursue other avenues. But like I said, her bloodwork is great, so thank GOD it doesn't seem to be any horrible disease like cancer. Oh, and it's not menangitis, she's just not sick enough (she acts fine, fever and all). Thank GOD!
Thank you all for your support and prayers. I truly believe they helped her.
So far today, she seems totally better. Her temp is normal. Hopefully she just had some freak virus and nothing else.

If she is responding to Motrin it seems like a good sign. that her fever goes down soon and stays down.

Thank you all SO much. I don't post on this board often so it's really nice to have this support.
We have an appt. at 11:15. I think she is going to have a chest xray and have blood drawn, and we'll go from there. I will update you when I get back.
