I am thrilled... for a comprehensive strategy on Covid, improving our standing on the world stage and making civility great again!
What is his plan and strategy on Covid??
Increase testing and improve contact tracing and improve reopening strategy that is science based, and follows public health guidance
When we say "increased" testing? Who are we testing more? If you have symptoms you get tested. If you are in contact with a positive case you get tested. So who makes up the incease in testing? Just random people? I'm genuinely curious about that.
I don't know the details of how they will improve it. I can imagine that testing will be more available (It is not as available in other areas as it is in NY- My friend 's DH in FL tested positive with symptoms. My friend was told she didn't need to get tested) Huge difference from NY's strategy. Results should be received much sooner. The way it is now, people potentially could infect so many before they get the results back.
Pool testing: You test a large group of people from a school or location. So yes, it is somewhat random, but the group they come from is not. If one in the group test positive- you go back into and identify. It is better for large scale screening, saves money and supplies (swabs, reagents etc) If no one in that group tests positive you did not waste money and resources. They have a better idea of where the hot spots are that are must be focused upon.
I am not an expert, but this is my best understanding - to answer your questions.
The question with pool testing is do they record the amount of positive in that pool or the entire pool? You could potentially get larger numbers when there are none.
If I understand your question, the purpose of the pool testing is to identify and mitigate that positive person or persons. So if they get one positive in the batch they do have to go back in and retest the samples- to see who in that batch is positive. It is best used in areas where the positivity rate is low and the results of the pool are expected to be all negative or low. In areas with higher positivity, this testing is not effective.
The purpose is not to use the results of a pool as part of our statistics of Covid- until that one or 2 positive cases are pulled out. So if in a pool of 10 people, with one testing positive, I assume they would record one case, not 10. Is that what you were asking?
Exactly so who is to say they don’t say 10 people tested positive? How are we to know for certain they only record 1?

Thank you. I never knew what they meant by more testing. Except of course actually providing more actual tests to areas that are still lacking them like you said.

Thank you!! If anything, we are MORE likely to not suffer through long term lockdowns with Biden. To one of the PP, while I did not vote for Biden (or Trump), please do not turn this into a Biden bashing thread. That was not the intention of the OP.
Thank you for saying that.

I am excited about EVERYTHING!!! For the first time in 4 years I feel so hopeful about the future. I look forward to Biden cleaning house and securing a cabinet full of qualified, good people who will make the country better and restore our democracy.
I'm also just so excited to see a woman bust the hell through that glass ceiling, so proud of Kamala.

Your understanding is correct. They record only the positives- so if you test a pool of 10 and one positive shows up- they count the one positive, not 10 positives.

They retest all the samples in that pool. They don’t record all 10 tests as positive.

As I said in a previous post, follow actual scientists and their data. The Covid Tracking Project is the data the White House uses. There were over 700K positives this week. That means 1 in 450 people in the US tested positive this week.

Ur friend’s DH got diagnosed based on symptoms?
No she said he had symptoms and tested positive. So i assume he got tested because he had symptoms and the test was positive
Ohh so the wife (not the DH) was the one who was told she didn’t need to get tested? I wonder what were the reasons the dr told her for not needing to get tested.
Probably lack of tests in the area. I remember when this first started it was hard to get a test here too.

I would love to hear this too as maybe I missed it more than I will listen to the scientists for another lockdown.
Why all of a sudden a concern about the Covid now that Biden was elected? Where was the real concern when it was Trump?
Just asking, he seems to think he will do a better job! Let's see......

It makes me happy with all the positivity we are seeing in the streets today. Such a HUGE diff from just a few short months ago. My heart is happy today.
I will be happy to see Mnuchin, Devos, Ivanka and Kuschner gone.
So it is ok now disregard all the violence they created that has been going on for months by them??

I am just hoping that he gets a handle on this Covid situation because I want to start living my life again! For everything else, good luck. No politician really fixes anything so I'm not expecting too much. Fix Covid, don't raise my taxes, do something about racism running rampant in this country and don't use twitter and I'll be relatively happy.
Yes. Low expectations, but after what we just had, even my lowest expectations will be better.
like not having White House super spreader events without masks… And now five more people have it in the White House… Including Mark Meadows. I guess he wasn’t kidding when he said that they weren’t gonna be able to get a handle on it. He would even be talking to reporters without a mask on and would get annoyed when they asked him to wear one.
At least their days are numbered.
At least mass gatherings in the streets aren’t super spreaders ?? oh that’s right, covid is going to magically disappear from the media now.
95% are wearing masks. Unlike the rallies and events at the White House. That’s the difference. And no, it’s not disappearing. CoVid cases reached a record high in US yesterday.
I have to disagree. Streets are flooded with people not wearing masks. I’m watching it. We can’t have weddings or other celebrations....even thanksgiving. But this is ok? I especially love the “police are still pigs” sign. Real classy.
Biden and his supporters said such horrible things about Trump gatherings but now this ok?
Fake news.
Really? I happen to be watching CNN in Atlanta and they had people drinking liquor straight from the bottle, flipping off the camera, no masks. That was on CNN. Is that fake news now?
Yep, fake news. I don’t watch that lame main stream media stuff. Only EagleWatchUSA and RightWingTruth. Rush Limbaugh said people like you would lie. I’m not a sheep!!!
(See, I’m going to do what you guys did for 4 years. I’m practicing. )
But, yes, most people are wearing masks.
So if they can wear makes in Times Square, why can’t they be there for Nye?
Blame that on dumb and dumber (Cuomo and Diblasio)

Re: 11/7/20 - a celebratory thread
NSC pandemic unit that was dismantled by Trump admin seems like a logical starting point to fight the pandemic. Media reporting science helps too. Learning how contact tracing works can help with a lot of the repetitive questions here too. Helen Bramswell is an easy way into personal empowerment on the topic. She is always sharing great studies and articles.
Devos out? Fkin ay! First lady educator? Yes ma'am!
Shattering more than one glass ceiling? So empowering.
Anyone else singing Hamilton all weekend long? Or am I the only Hamnerd here.
I'm feeling empowered to continue to fight the good fight for equality for all. And justice for all.
Amen. Namaste. Hallelujah!

Yes!
I'm looking forward to people being in charge of agencies who will carry out their goal, not sabotage it - i.e. the EPA.
And if he gets the coronavirus relief and tax credit and adjustments he wants they are winners for the middle class and families.
And of course the task force to reunite the children separated from their parents.
I slept better last night than I had in a while.

22 states had record hospitalizations last week.
Suffolk county jumped to 2.5% positivity yesterday with 259 new cases in a day.
Wonder if that was from pools and incorrect numbers.

All of this. We have been raising a glass to freedom here! ... All the bots on the internet that seek to sow paranoia and cause us to doubt everything that's true can't undermine the efforts we are about to see to eradicate covid and all that you mentioned above.

Or it could be from people who have their head in the sand and act like covid is not a real threat.
