11 month old hates table food
I don't know what to do with him. He really hates table food. He will eat purees (baby food) and yogurt but I know at this age I should be giving him more small pieces of food. I try everything!!! I should also add that he knows how to pick up food because if I give him cheerios, puffs or yogurt melts he will eat that. Any advice? TIA!

Re: 11 month old hates table food
Have you tried Applesauce????? When we started I would dip DS's meat and veggies in a little applesauce, just to get him to try them... gradually I phased out the applesauce, and he'sa great eater now at 14 mos. It's probably not the taste, but the texture that's throwing him off, they say it can take 15 tries to get them to eat a new food but the sauce worked for us!!!

Mine was the same way. I tried everything. Then miracle of miracles at her first b-day party she ate a meatball. By the time she was 14 months she stopped eating purees full time. Don't stress over it. I still mix purees with plain or vanilla yogurt for DD and she loves it. She'll be two in a few weeks.

Re: 11 month old hates table food
Same thing happened with ds#2. He would put the food in his mouth, but just never swallow...he also didn't really eat baby food...so really his only nutrition was formula....he just turned 1, and has started to eat table food...doesn't eat much, but at least he is eating and swallowing something!!!
It will happen...just keep on offering

Re: 11 month old hates table food
Thanks for the advice!!! He tries like 3 bites of something and then shakes his head "no". I feel like he is not getting enough food per day. For breakfast he has a jar of fruit with oatmeal mixed in(earth's best breakfast blends) and a few cheerios. Lunch is a yogurt (yo baby 3-in-1) and a snack(baby mum mum, cheerios) and dinner is the biggest struggle. I did get him to eat part a Dr. Pragers spinach pancake the other day because I dipped it in sweet potatoes. He also starts hysterical crying when I put him in his highchair. I feel like I have made him hate food and I don't want that .

This is exactly how my 11 month old is. He has never been a good eater and some days are a real struggle to get him to eat anything. I'm not sure if it is a texture thing with him or if he really just doesnt want to eat. I will offer him whatever we are eating, most days he won't eat it, but will touch it and play with it a little. I'm hoping one day it just clicks and he wants to eat.
Hang in there!

Re: 11 month old hates table food
Ladybug mine also screamed bloody murder whenI put him in the highchair, 2 things that have helped are 1) a highchair toy, I don't know what they're called but they have a suction cup on the bottom so you can stick it to the tray and keep them entertained... also now i throw a few Goldfish on the tray for him to slap around (usually he just throws them to the dog ) -- they keep him busy so i can get the food down!!!

Re: 11 month old hates table food
This is how my ds is too. It's a texture thing for him. I've tried pastina, pancakes, waffles...nope.
Baby food? Yum!
Hopefully things will change soon. He is almost 13 months.

Re: 11 month old hates table food
Glad to see that he is not the only one. I keep seeing all these posts about food ideas for 11 month olds and it upsets me because I try everything and he is not into it. Thanks for all the advice!

Re: 11 month old hates table food
What about trying foods that are soft, like the purees, but are technically table foods.
I just made for Sasha quinoa, mashed peas and ricotta cheese-- with some pecorino sprinkled on top and she liked it and ate it right away. It's mushy like a puree, but it's a balanced meal.
You can try the same with pasta, cous cous, beans, etc.

Love the idea. He would probably eat something like this. I give him a lot of cottage cheese because at least that has protein. The problem is he will only eat the whipped one which has 1% milk opposed to the regular one with 4% milk. Any other ideas like the one you mentioned above? TIA!

I have a ton of stuff all set to make-- just haven't done it yet!
Red lentils are supposed to be great-- because they get very mushy when cooked. Also chick peas and black beans.
I would try any or all of those-- then choose a veggie and a grain. Quinoa is good because it's a high protein grain-- so, that's two birds with one stone.
I steamed the peas, then mashed with a fork. You can probably use a tomato also. I need to get these canned tomatoes which I think would work well- the San Marzano ones are very good and sweet-- so I think Sasha will take to them.
I don't plan on giving her meat because I am a vegetarian and honestly the thought of pureed or little teeny pieces of meat is not appealing... and I make and feed her all of her meals. You don't need meat for protein, just need to be educated and creative. And, a lot of what I plan to make-- I would eat myself.
Ricotta seems to go with everything, and helps to soften the foods too. I am also going to try to use tofu as well. I read in a book to grind up cheerios or puffs, then cube some tofu and coat them. It's a high protein finger food that takes on the taste of the cereal.

Re: 11 month old hates table food
Its trial and error. DD is 19 months and she's gotten better, but the first few months of table food was really tough.
Some days I felt like all she ate were puffs and cheerios!
Pancakes, waffles and french toast were the best. Now she eats chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, french fries, pizza, meatballs, and pasta w/butter.
We're not big veggies eaters (I know, bad!), so we still mix in baby food with real food.
