I'm going for mine on Aug. 29. My gyn didn't really make it sound like it was my choice. I'm not concerned the babies might have down's syndrome. I don't care whether the test is done one way or the other really. But it appears from my drs office that its routine?

I chose to take the test, because although I would not abort a down syndrome baby I was concerned about trisomy 17. I do not think I could do 9 months of pregnancy only to have my baby die within its first yr of life. The AFP I chose to do simply for diagnostic reasons. If they find out a fetus has spinabifida they will take the baby out via c-section to prevent anymore damage. THese tests are obviously optional and really you have to do what is best for you.
