Such a senseless tragedy. I heard on the radio this morning that the youngest injured was a 3 MONTH OLD. What the fcuk is wrong with people? Why did this monster do something this horrific?
Not that one thing has anything to do with the other, but WHY was a three month old at the movies at midnight??
I thought the same thing. How could they sleep through something that loud? And a 6 year old too! Did those parents need to see that movie so badly that they had to drag their young children with them so late? Not that this horrible event wouldn't have happened if they weren't there but still.

Re: 14 dead in mass shooting at Dark Knight Rises in CO
This is so so sad. I have very close friends who live in Aurora and family who also live in the Denver area. I've been to Aurora, so it struck even closer to home. it's s tragic and sad. I know it's insensitive, but WHAT is in the water in CO? I always think of Columbine. I was in HS when it happened.

I mean, imo it is a reasonable observation that young kids don't really belong at a violent movie let alone a midnight showing BUT it's not like these parents ever dreamed in a million years that this would be the consequence. It's not like they had their babies strapped to speeding motorcycles or something where there is that type of assumption of risk. You think your family is safe in a movie theater, you know?

No, I agree with you. My first thought on reading it was that those small children shouldn't have been at that movie in the first place. Not because there could be a shooting, just because it's a violent movie shown after midnight.

Because babies that young can sleep anywhere. DS was so transportable at that age, there was no set bedtime.
True, but this movie would be wayyyy too loud for a babies delicate ears. That infant should not have been in that theatre. I understand it's a moot point now though

I thought it too though. It's definitely something that will make those children's deaths even more terrible for those parents to deal with

Probably because it was a huge movie and if you wanted to take out a lot of people that would be the place to do it. My BFF's son and brother were seeing the move at a theatre about 15 minutes away. It's so very scary! My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved.

Re: 14 dead in mass shooting at Dark Knight Rises in CO
I really feel like never leaving the house with my kids. A few weeks ago we were getting ices at Ralphs in Lindenhurst and 2 hours later that girl was killed by the drunk driver right in front of where we were and now these babies died at the movies. I feel like no place is safe now. I can sit here and give my kids organic food in BPA free bowls, use the safest sunscreen and lots of it, and every other thing that keeps them safe and healthy BUT I can't control the actions of others and that's what scares the crap out of me, that all these steps I'm taking that I feel will protect my kids could mean nothing if some wackjob starts shooting up their school, the movies, the pizza place, and other place that was "safe." Makes me sick to my stomach.

OMG. Thank God they weren't there.
I mean, I guess that's why, but just why in general?! I read another article that seems like his mother kinda saw it coming? Here's the quote from the Washington Post article I read...
A San Diego woman who was contacted by ABC News told reporters she was Holmes’ mother. She said had awoken unaware of the shooting and had not yet been contacted by authorities, but immediately expressed concern to ABC that her son may have been involved.
“You have the right person,” she said. “I need to call the police .?.?. I need to fly out to Colorado.”
Link.
It's just so unreal to me.

They're saying now his entire apartment is completely booby trapped with explosives and done so pretty well. It may take days to disarm.
I now think of all the people who are displaced from their homes and any animals left behind.
I'd say may him disarm it but he could probably trigger it to blow killing himself and wrecking the block.

Re: 14 dead in mass shooting at Dark Knight Rises in CO
We live in a sick sick world and my heart breaks for the people who died when all they did was go to a movie.
As for having kids in the theatre at midnite--its summer vacation and a big blockbuster movie coming out. Maybe it was a special treat for that kid that the parents did one time in their life--maybe they knew the baby would sleep through the noise, yet none of that is whats important.
The thing that gets me-- there is something wrong with a world where a 24 year old obtain tear gas, a gas mask, many many guns, a bullet proof vest and enough material to booby trap an entire apartment without anyone being suspicious?
It is absolutely disgusting and I am only glad that in a world where he can access this stuff--he can also hopefully fry for it too.

Frying would be too good for this scumbag. Hopefully his new "friends" in jail will be as disgusted by his actions as I am.
As a hormonal pregnant woman this has me sick to my stomach. Just imagining what those innocent people in the theater went through because of this deranged freak . . . My heart breaks for them and the families who have had their loved ones senselessly stolen from them.
It's going to be a long time before I will be able to fully enjoy a movie in a theater again. Things like this make me afraid to go anywhere with my family, you never know who's out there. I don't think I'll be able to ever watch this movie either.

14 dead in mass shooting at Dark Knight Rises in CO
This is just so devastating for everyone involved. And absolutely terrifying. My heart goes out to the victim's families & the people who were injured.
What really bothers me is the TIME he took to plot this all out. This wasn't something he decided to do on a whim, very methodical and for no apparent reason whatsoever, since he didn't turn the gun on himself.... KWIM? He did it just for the sake of doing it. Does he think he's Bane?!?

I believe the photo is from the University of Colorado where he was apparently a PHD candidate in neuroscience.
This is absolutely terrifying. The time and planning this whole thing took - from his apt to the movie theatre. I just can't believe this. I wonder what the reasoning behind this was. It just doesn't make sense - such a tragedy.

My heart breaks for the victims and their families. I don't know what would make a person do this. Such a tragedy. I'm watching the news as there is a special report on right now
And personally I have irrational fears when in movie theaters, this just makes me realize they are not that irrational.
